How to Become Emotionless

You will never be emotionless. It's simply impossible however as you grow more confident and gain experience it will weigh less and less.

True. But I don't think that one should strive to be emotionless anyway, rather than strive to learn to control their emotions and keep a level head.
Which also means that between periods of trading people should also learn how let stress out and rest.

I think that you can not relate to making money and any activities related to mental work without emotion, because it affects your well-being. The only way it seems to me, is gain experience in the trade and the time for which you will become a professional, it will teach more objectively and rationally relate to trading in general but not totally emotionless

LOL, I'm reminded of the very first $8,000 I blew in my Retail Forex trading account many years ago. I ended up blowing another $18,000 until I got a clue and starting doing some real homework on what made markets move. If you had told me to go meditate back then, I would have told you:



There is just no way that I would have been in a state of mind sufficient to allow me to go "meditate" after blowing over $26,000 total. Nothing personal but that would have sounded crazy to me back then. Ah, those were the days. I remember them well.

thats also the reason why demo accounts not work (on emotional aspects) .. because if you blow them up ... it does not hurt!

it also must hurt badly .

as example, if you blow a 100$ account but you have 10.000 money to burn on your regular income .. it won't have any effect .
but if you blow an account that consumes maybe 50% of the money you can afford to loose .. your thinking will change !!

I agree, unfortunately. It'd be good if we learned to be cautios without such incentive, but most people don't do that unless they get burnt.

I don't think you need to be emotionless to trade with Forex, you need to just have proper control over it. I think you need to learn how to control your emotions.

That is my view as well. Emotions are a natural part of who we are, excising them completely is both unnatural and unhealthy, in my opinion. Learning self-control, however, is crucial.

I agree. My biggest problem with EAs is that they can't take into account the human psyche, and that is something plays a large part into the market movement more often than not.

I don't think there is a genuine emotional/psychological replacement for losing capital in stages. Caution is both intellectual and emotional, but it first has to be psychologically anchored to some existential threat before the need for caution becomes extant - else logically one would be engaged in worry without causation and we call that paranoia.

If a Trader is dealing in micro lots and relative low cost basis per trade, the felt impact of a loss is going to be rather different than a Trader dealing in Yards while acting as chief trading strategist and CEO/Co-Founder of a private trading firm they built from the ground up. Both individuals are Traders. However, they have completely different responsibilities and expectations about performance. One treats trading as a hobby or part-time cash generating venture, while the other is running a business and responsible for growing capital and developing risk mitigation methodology.

The pressure mounts as the cost basis increases regardless of the risk profile. This is why I constantly say that a good Trader is first and foremost concerned with Risk Mitigation Methodology. Gradual reductions in risk potential lead to exponential growth in profit potential. This is also the primary reason I rely upon a systematic approach to trading, as I have control over the inputs used in the decision making process and I can empirically derived whether or not those inputs are producing the kind of output (growth of capital) necessary to meet the needs of an empirically driven Revenue Model. By doing this, I can then algorithmically tie the Revenue Model directly to the performance of the system being used. Thus, automatically gearing growth of capital to match the performance of the system itself.

Doing this redefines "risk" by definition and provides a more precise "expectation" which in turn regulates emotion by way of an appropriately geared expectation model. If my expectations are in check because performance is in-line with an empirically derived revenue model linked to system performance, then emotion is regulated and psychology is normalized in a healthy manner.

The human psyche is probably the very first thing you want to remove from the trade decision support process. The empirical nature of a particular number of orders that ultimately move the market in either direction can be captured, quantified, analyzed, calculated, processed, studied and then algorithmically interpreted for use in a decision support model. That model can then be deployed, monitored and its MAE/MFE performance analyzed against revenue model expectations.

If the decision support model's performance falls in-line with revenue model expectations, no further adjustments are necessary. If the decision support model's performance falls below revenue model expectations, either the revenue model expectation is greater than the output performance of the decision support model and therefore needs to be re-optimized downward to bring it in-line with decision support model output performance, or the decision support model itself needs re-optimization to bring its output performance upward and in-line with revenue model expectations. If the decision support model's performance consistently rises above revenue model expectations, then the revenue model needs upward re-optimization to bring it in-line with the new reality of the output performance in the decision support model.

A Technical Trader who relies upon decision support trading technology (algorithmically driven systems) has extra duty to re-balance the DSM (Decision Support Model), RME (Revenue Model Expectation) and the Portfolio. Whereas, the Fundamental Trader only has the duty to re-balance the RME and Portfolio.

Emotions (as applied and referred to in this context as human psyche), whether that found in the existential market or that of the Trader, are probably better left out of this delicate process as it tends to corrupt an otherwise rational, clear and effective thought which ultimately is necessary in the DSM, RME and Portfolio re-balancing phases.

Emotions leave "footprints" in price action....not price levels, the action itself...

Those types of footprints are often faked and the "Real Intent" typically catches "Dumb Money" off guard and headed for the exists. Afterwards, a new Accumulation/Distribution Cycle begins:



Unless one has access to true DOM, or another method/indicator for measuring the net/net effect of the A/C/D Cycle, I wouldn't fool around with it. They don't call it "Dumb Money" for no reason.

A profitable and well tested strategy in all condition of the market , a good deposit, minimal leverage, a consolidate exprerience. Trading is as to learn to climb mountains

if u got loss then dont try to cover that loss imediatly and control ur self trade more in this ways u can become a good trader

It is impossible to stop your emotions, unless perhaps you are sleeping or on some heavy duty drugs that put you in a trance. Either way, you probably are not trading.

What is causing your emotions? Is it watching the candles dancing? Is it watching your account balance roll up and down? Most likely, it is one of these, or both. So, if that is what is causing your anxiety, stop looking at it. Refer to the indicators that you use for entering and exiting and ignore all the candle activity that happens in between. Concentrate on your process for trading, and your edge, rather than how many pips you have. This will help you become methodical and learn to trust the process, not the market, and not your wallet. If you cannot profit using your process, then you have to fix it or replace it. Correct your process and continue. There is no such thing as never losing because despite how much you "think" you can predict, you have no idea what I will do next, nor the other millions of traders in the market. You have to follow your process and stick to it in order to exit with a win, and stick to it in order to exit with a loss. Once you find an edge you like for entering the market, then spend 100 times more of your time developing exit strategies for winning and exit strategies for losing. Finally, just follow your process.

Trade like you are working on an assembly line. Do this, do that, repeat, repeat, repeat. That is how you become successful.

I have been wondering - is there anyone here who can genuinely claim that they're truly emotionless when they trade?
