How much do you risk per trade?

Yeah, if you’ve need a withdraw to pay the bills next week, then sure being quick is normal But as long as I’m in this game, the most important thing to me is my capital. Being able to survive and still have bullets to fire matters more than rushing to recover a loss, in my opinion.

As already mentioned, it depends on how good your system is and there are a few more numbers to consider.
I would say:

1. Risk 1% per trade.
2. Max. 10 (uncorrelated) open positions.
3. Max. 10% of your Balance per trade.
4. Max. 50% Balance used for all trades combined.

Those rules combined mean there's never more than 5% of your Balance at risk.
Many feel forced to trade large positions because their account is so small they 'must' do so because otherwise the profits are so small they aren't worth the time.
Firstly, it also means your losses won't be worthwhile.
Secondly a good system has a low risk, and that means you can have several uncorrelated open positions.

Following those rules will be beneficial in the long run. By not following them, the run to the bottom of your account usually is a short one.

So instead of risking 1x10%, risk 10x1%.

Most disciplined approaches keep single-trade risk in the 0.25–1% range and control portfolio heat when positions correlate.

Just enough to sting if I lose but not enough to ruin the day.

its never fixed from 2% to 10% per trade, but recently been trying smaller risks but in bulk trades. seems the way to go. never above 50% of all trades.

1% - 2% per one trade. For multiple positions I will go with 0,25% per trade, adding more by the flow, or double if I've got stoped out

Ngl, if I have a small account I don’t see a point in risking 1-2%. For instance, if my trading balance is like $500, I would risk $50 a trade, which is 10%. However, if I have a bigger size I would risk no more than 5%, I’m fine with that risk since I’m confident in my trades.

Tom Hougaard has an excellent argument on this topic which is contrary to the established and mainstream advice of using only 2-5% per trade. He basically says what is then the purpose of your deposited funds in your trading account if not using it for trading? You can easily find some of his videos online and one of those truly changed the way I trade. You will never build a solid account or huge profits if you only use 2% of your account size. But it’ s not like you need to put everything in one trade, he explains this very nicely with the example of how many traders add to a winning position (it was very low).
And one more thing i remembered which left an impression and still remember it because it’s very true:
If your trading feels boring, just increase the lot size

I don’t think "percentage of the account" is a very helpful measurement. Not for me.

If I had $10,000 in trading capital and wanted to risk 1% of it, $100 per trade - though I’m really less adventurous than that - I’d probably keep about $1,000 in a trading account and leave the other $9,000 in the bank.

And in that case, I’d be risking 1% of my trading capital but technically 10% of my account.

But who’d want to keep all their available trading funds in a broker account, anyway?

Since I trade only crypto, I usually risk 3%-5% of my deposit per trade. That’s how I’m staying consistent in trading. I already know trading with full risk is never gonna work out. I used to trade with 70%-80% thinking I’m the smartest one in the market, others are just stupid, and as a result, the market punished me heavily...

Sorry if I’ve completely misunderstood you, but why is the fact that you trade only crypto a reason to risk 3%-5% of your deposit per trade?

Because they are total newbies.. They got lucky with a few crypto trades, now they think they are masters, when in fact they are just liquidity for big boys.....

There are many ways to size a position. The most well known (I think) is sizing based on risk is a stop loss based on <something>.
That something can be the volatility of what you trade.

Proper position sizing, sizing based on capital and risk. So that's two main factors. While I always use both (goes automatically anyway) most of the time it's the risk based sizing part that's most conservative. Meaning most of the time looking at risk only is enough.

But depending on the sizing strategy it very well could be that capital side of sizing always ends up between 3-5%.
So the sizing strategy could be very good in theory. But to my liking the numbers are too high. (I aim for 1-2%)

What he or she wrote is the opposite.
After trading 70-80% and being hurt badly he/she now moved towards a far more sensible 3-5%.

Calculating risk is waste of time IMHO. Only if you are swing trader there is a time to calculate exact %. In case that you are scalper or day trader like me then it must be dynamic.

For me it’s usually around 1-2% per trade. I try not to go higher than that because one bad streak can wipe out a lot of the account if the risk is too big.
A lot of traders in the forex market stick somewhere in that range. The idea is to survive losing streaks and stay in the game long enough for your strategy to play out. Of course some people go lower, like 0.5%, especially if they trade more frequently.

Ayoooo, 13%? That’s diabolical. You’re basically playing a russian roulette with your entire account every time you click buy or sell lol. Even if you have a 90% win rate, a single small losing streak of three or four trades would wipe out nearly HALF your capital. That’s not trading, that’s gambling with no safety net. Most professional risk managers would faint hearing that number The golden rule is usually 1% to 2% max per trade to survive the inevitable drawdowns. At 13%, you aren’t giving yourself any room to breathe or learn from mistakes. One bad month and you’re done.

The golden rule - never more than 1-2% per trade...in fact, I try my best not to bet more than 0.7-1%....
this way I can be wrong many times in a row and still actually BE in the BIZZ! Alive, mentally sober and calm....
