Good to hear from my friend in Fiji! It would be great to trade some emails again (if this is who I think it is ... "D").
Anyway, I'd be happy to correspond with the folks here if you have questions about mentoring with me or others. I don't have anything bad to say about anyone else, but I will say that it's important to be able to get answers back by email from your mentor. This used to be a problem for me, because I would get a zillion emails every day. But I've been able to work that out now, and I am usually able to respond back in the same day.
It's also important that your mentor lets you roam around the world of indicators (with some guidance of course) and then settle on a system or approach that feels right to you. OR, the mentor should be able to share some basic rules and strategies for the methods/approaches/systems that he uses. Some of my very best students, who are now trading for a living, built their own systems and then used my help mostly for discipline. Others have adapted a method that I have used.
Now, as far as discipline is concerned, you need to get access to someone else, whether mentor, friend, pet, supernatural being, or vegetable, who is going to hold you accountable for your trades. This doesn't mean that they keep you from experiencing losses -- it means they hold you to the plans you make. If you train with me and send me a chart in the morning, and you say that you are planning to take a short GBPUSD trade, then I am going to email you later and ask you about that trade. You need to be accountable to take the trades you plan.
Last of all, your mentor should announce the trades he's going to take, in advance of taking those trades. Then the dude should break down why he's taking such trades. Then he should break down what happened later -- whether wins or losses. Here is a really brief example of what I send out on a regular basis.
Please contact me directly if you have questions, comments, jokes, or favorite recipes. You can reach me at 304 281 8998 (but it's hard to reach me on the phone) or by email (rob AT robbooker DOT com). Or by carrier pigeon to my home, but that seems too slow.
