There is a lot more the US could do. If any of it seems extreme. well, it's all been done before. And the jihadists in the Pentagon are down for "maximum violence"...

- invade and occupy Iran with a massive ground force to (try to) completely eliminate any threats to the SoH. This would take (I read variously) between 100,000 to 250,000 troops, to start;
- Use nuclear weapons on Iranian population centers incrementally until the Iranian regime completely surrenders (a la Nagasaki/Hiroshima). This is an idea that Trump has reportedly entertained.

Actually, it seems like the blockade in the Gulf of Oman could work to force Iran to "make a deal" - but it's a game of chicken where whoever can stand the economic consequences the longest will "win."

Oh really? And what if Iran decides to take out all of the oil and gas infrastructure in Gulf in response?
Trump is stupid enough not to care, but even the bootlickers around him won't let him. As for nukes, the military won't give that nut job the nuclear codes. And ground troops? It would be another Iraq/Afghanistan, only worse.
And none of the options you listed actually forces Iran to open the Strait for free navigation. They will always have that card to play.

I only suggested what COULD be done. More likely is the prolonged blockade, until Iran has to start shutting in its wells. A game of chicken.

The rest of the Gulf states are already shutting in wells. Forcing Iran to do the same is just going to make the inevitable oil shock worse than it already is. Higher gas prices in the US and all over the world. Global recession/depression. The Iranian regime must be more patient than the US because for them this is an existential struggle. That's not true for the US. For the US, this is a war dreamt up in the addled head of a senile narcissist who happens to be POTUS. Iran is willing to outlast the US.
