US managed to successfully kill Canada's industrial capacity with NAFTA and has been at it to further do so. The sooner Canada gets rid of it's US dependence the better.

We sell more oil to the US than the Saudis do. Resources aren't nothing, they're everything. It's population that we don't have, but as automation and AI undermine the labor economy, that's going to become a huge advantage, not a limitation. Good riddance to producers leaving here, they aren't needed. Ditto investors. Slower growth rates are bad for the rich, but great for social and economic stability. We have everything we need if we divorced from the US completely, including great relations with the rest of the world.

Our leadership at the provincial levels is generally terrible, that's true. Certainly no worse than the average Republican governor, though. And at the federal level, meh, getting the job done, more or less. At least it's not a circus clown show.

You may want to look at data and see where Canada is. Canada federal leadership is terrible, has been for the past 10 years and still is. Liberals have proven to be bad for Canada. Yet Canadians have not learned their lesson, they are about to for the next four years.

This monopolized real estate and consumer services based economy creates a living environment that is rough for the average person and makes Canada less and less competive in the world economy over time. Most of our immigrants are coming from north India which has been ravaged by drought, heat waves and farmer suicide. So comparatively, paying too much for food, rent and your phone might seem tolerable.
Canada is a G7 because Gerald Ford pushed for it in the 1970s. Not really a G7.
Realistically Canada is the US b*itch 99% of the time so it makes sense the US would want Canada to have voting power in various international forums.
