You all requested this feature, so I'm pleased to tell you that the latest version of Trading Station Desktop (now available for download) offers stop limit orders.

To place such an order on the platform, click on the Entry button and select Range Entry for the Order Type. In the example below, I am creating an Entry Order to buy EUR/USD at 1.14000. I have set the Range Entry to 2.0 pips. That means my order will only get filled if the price available to fill me is within 2 pips of 1.14000. That means I could get filled at 1.1402 but no higher than that.

Hi Spacca,

Slippage is one of the risks you assume when trading with any broker and in any market whether it's equities, futures or forex, because your order can only be filled at a price that's trading in the market.

However, unlike with some other brokers, slippage at FXCM works both ways. If you have a limit or take profit order, and the price gaps in favor of your trade, then you will get filled at the more favorable price which is trading in the market. This is called positive slippage or price improvement. Furthermore, FXCM has enhanced order options on our platforms that allow you to limit your negative slippage while still enjoying the full benefits of any positive slippage that's available in the market.

The Market Range feature on Trading Station and the Maximum Deviation* feature on our MT4 platform allow you to limit negative slippage on market orders. The brand new Range Entry feature on the latest version of Trading Station allows you to limit negative slippage on stop orders. That's why a study of over 43 million orders executed through FXCM over the course of a year showed that overall our clients experience more positive slippage than negative slippage.

* With most MT4 brokers, the Max Dev feature limits both positive and negative slippage equally, but FXCM enhanced the Max Dev functionality for our MT4 platform to limit only negative slippage.

Hi PP,

Your charts show the bid price in the market. That's the price at which you can sell. The higher the price you can sell at, the better it is for you. By contrast, if you are looking to buy, then you want the lowest ask price possible. It's worth noting that your charts indicate that FXCM provided you with the better sell price at the time in question. Another thing to note is that the candle you highlighted was when Retail Sales data were released in the UK which can cause greater volatility in prices.

Sorry for not getting back sooner. I've heard back from my colleague and this was what he said:

"Our API doesnt time out the connection until after 90 seconds. If we set the timeout to too short of a time period momentary drops in connection would cause you to get disconnected from the platform. That could be problematic for our clients who may have weaker connections. If we were to move it to a few seconds, its possible that clients in places like South Africa would never be able to connect or, if they did, theyd get disconnected constantly.


"Now as far as the impact from this, I havent seen this causing any issues. Lets say the worst case scenario happens, you send an order, then get disconnected but it is not yet reported to NinjaTrader. The order request shouldnt even have an order or ticket number yet since it hasnt reached us to get the number yet. Then you would see that youre disconnected so you log back in. Its up to NinjaTrader how to display that order. We have no record of it. Most likely NinjaTrader would show that order status as unknown. You should also have a record of that in your NinjaTrader logs as well."

Trading Hours for End of Daylight Savings Time

Please note the upcoming changes to CFD trading hours due to the end of daylight savings time in Europe and the United States on 25 October and 1 November respectively. Complete details can be found at the FXCM Platform Update Center.


Forex Trading Hours

In terms of New York Time, the trading desk will still open at 5pm on Sunday and close at 5pm on Friday as always. However, since New York Time will shift on 1 November from GMT-4 to GMT-5, the trading desk hours will also shift by one hour in GMT terms. Starting that week, the trading desk will open at 22:00 GMT on Sunday and close at 22:00 GMT on Friday.


A special note for all MT4 clients on our New York Close servers

The time zone on our New York Close MT4 servers will change on the weekend of 1 November from GMT+3 to GMT+2. In this way, midnight on your MT4 charts will stay in line with the 5pm New York Close. If you have any EAs or indicators that use a GMT offset, please update them to GMT+2 that weekend.

Hi Jason and thanks very much for getting back to me. That information is helpful, and I have a few more technical questions that I would very much like to discuss with your colleague. For the record I am a lifetime license-holder for NinjaTrader and I have been trading all market types, except forex, since 1999. I'm an experienced and profitable short-term trader and for a variety of logistical reasons, trading 24hr markets like forex has become more appealing and important to me. Once I can get my questions and concerns taken care of, I am ready to join FXCM through NinjaBrokerage. Where I am completely inexperienced is in using this forum and I'm not quite sure how to send a private message on here, so if you could point me in the right direction I will get my contact info to you as I would like to discuss a few things with your FXCM colleague. And so we head towards the end of another month, and still FXCM don't seem to be able to manage the "really difficult" business of showing accurate bid/ask lines on their charts. Promise after promise of "it's coming....just persevere a little longer". Seriously, how hard is it to do something that every other broker manages, even the really shit ones?

Jason, I appreciate it's not "your" problem, but it is your company's problem. You're misrepresenting current price on your charts and, unless the trader is savvy enough to identify the difference, they may think that the current price is what is shown on your charts. For me, I now need to find another broker. I can't keep mentally compensating for the difference between visual ask/bid and the 'actual' bid ask when I look at historical charts.

Such a shame. For a UK user, you've done everything else really well (managing deposits/withdrawals, quick response from helpdesk etc.). Decent spreads too on the pairs I trade.
