imho has to go down 1st in order to go up

if no taper today 1268 lvl is very important for upside move coz it is monthly pivot, i bet there are options for gold to close 2013 under 1300$, but as u can see in chart if we pass 1270 area there will be strong resistance at 1294-95, anyways for long term if no tapering we can see a move about at least 30-40 dolar move in gold.

If there is tapering, Gold will fell thru 1225, if not supported will fell to minor support at 1220. If broken, we see 1211. If 1211 cannot hold, then 1180 is nearby.

GS: Our central forecast for the first tapering move remains March, with January possible as well. We see a decision to taper this week as unlikely for three reasons.

BofA: Our base case remains for the Fed to start tapering in 1Q next year, although the odds of a December taper have risen recently. We look for the Fed to strengthen its forward guidance over the course of 2014, but expect at most additional qualitative refinements at this meeting.

Citi: The likelihood of a Fed taper announcement this week … roughly 50/50.

Barclays: Our base case view is for no change from the FOMC this week; however, we see this as a close call.

Commerzbank: Due to recent strong employment data and the budget deal in Congress, there is now an increased risk that the Fed will begin tapering its bond buying (QE3) at this week’s FOMC meeting. Nonetheless, we think the Fed is somewhat more likely to wait a while longer before taking that step

Credit Agricole: We believe that Fed officials will want to assess the Q4 figures closely before tapering. Policymakers will have a better read on current conditions and growth prospects by the end of next month. At the January FOMC we believe policymakers will be comfortable reducing monthly asset purchases by $10 billion

SEB: Given that we believe the Fed will initiate tapering already this week and scale back purchases by USD 5- 10bn they may try to mitigate the negative impact on longer-dated bond yields.

4. Barclays: Mar taper, tho NFP increased Dec odds
5. Goldman: 7.0% unemp Fed suggested would stop QE. Tapering in March
6. Nomura: Expects first taper to occur at Jan meeting
7. HFE: Nov NFP adds fuel to the fire for the pro-taper camp
8. MS: odds more towards a Jan start relative to our March base case
9. Credit Suisse: increased Dec odds, but look for Jan taper
10. Pierpont: no Dec taper.
11. DBank: Dec taper, $10B Tsys
12. Jefferies: $5B Dec taper. CRT: no boost to odds of a Dec taper
13. BMO: lifts Dec tapering odds, but still lean toward a January shift
14. JPM: Dec taper close call, but Fed will hold off till Jan
15. BOFAML: 15% chance taper Dec, 30% Jan, 35% March, 20% later
16. RBS: Core view for no taper in December
17. Soc Gen: Thinks January is more likely

Only two of the seventeen here are looking at a taper tonight, and six go for Jan (albeit while being very flakey over the matter). Three go for March and the others either sit on the fence or have made no calls. So what can we gauge from all that wonderful analytical experience? Sweet Fanny Adams as usual.
