Hm looks like a spread widening situation during some sort of news event judging by the wild behavior even on the other broker's feed. Different companies handle risk in various ways during news events, which broker was the white chart from?

Dukascopy! Yes it happens all different times of the day random and it's perfectly not OK.

The wicks are mostly on the downside and the huge price moves work really good at taking your stop out!

Interesting. There have been a few cases of incorrect pricings being sent out, to which they said they would fix it with a trade audit if I was affected. That doesn't look like it's the case here though, as said before it probably has something to do with spread since their execution model is a little different with NDD (would be interested to see if it's the same on DD mode). I rarely notice big jumps as I trade higher frames though. I guess the only way to really know what the cause is is when Jason comes back with an answer though. Just my two cents, sorry for jumping down your throat earlier.

This is not case of a few incorrect pricing this is a case of totally different feed service form FXCM and Dukascopy, Oanda, etc..
Like I said before these are everyday price spikes from FXCM!! FXCM will tell you something but will they change or correct it?? You have to ask your self is the kind thing I want from my price feed??

This is a case of investigating wisely!!

Hi,

I have a spread betting account with FXCM. The minimum lot size on gold seems to be one lot. Can anyone tell me what that costs per pip?

Firstly, your an idiot go away!

Secondly, your posting charts with 1 pip spikes and claiming there is something wrong, charts won't match from different brokers exactly cause charts are all the BID value and different spreads and spreads can widen making them look like cheating.

FXCM are not cheating you, you merely looking for someone else to blame your losses on, it's you, accept responsibility for your own actions.

I am talking about price and price spikes not spreads. So what do you think price spikes do to your stops? They are all BID charts correct and same time frames too. These are not 1 pip price swings idiot take a look before talk dribble. The U/C friday was a 20 pip plus price spike difference from Dukascopy. Your right I will go away because I don't use a forum to trade from. I am not blaming FXCM I just conveying to other traders that this something that traders should beware of. Look at these charts below you will see price feed on (Dukascopy was @ 1.01402) and (FXCM went down to 1.01318). Check for your selfs so you can't say I am lying to you!

Okay, if you reckon you have price difference, don't just post the alledged spikes with claims of HUGE spike when it's like a few pips movement, post in a easy to compare format the FXCM chart and 2 other charts from different brokers which prove FXCM is fiddling.

I'll be checking for Photoshoping aswell be warned!!

Is is possible to remove the 20-symbol restriction in tradestation/webtrader? It is just plain useless and irritatingly timeconsuming to keep switching between subscribed symbols all the time.

Do what you want with this information and look for your self and quit accusing me of small price spikes because they're not! Look for your self. I keep posting charts and now I am getting accused of photoshoping it in. This is a great forum please keep it this way do some research for your self I am not going to do it for you guy's.

I am waiting to hear back from Jason Rogers on why these price spikes are different from other broker feeds????

What he's showing is valid, the 'spikes' do exist - although the differences in the charts do amount to around 4 pips at most. One thing to keep in mind though is that the spot markets work a little differently than globex and other exchanges, in that FXCM is getting their prices from the best offer from their liquidity providers. Given that FXCM is supposed to have some pretty good providers I'm a little surprised such spikes exist but that's the best explanation I can come up with for the discrepancy (keep in mind the way Dukascopy and FXCM handle this is probably different as well as FXCM runs NDD as default).

As much revenue as a company like this pulls in and given it's a publicly traded company I sincerely doubt there is anything malicious going on though. Let's just wait and see what the official response is.

Agreed, there is very little information for members to objectively know what they are looking at.

You may have already closed your account, but I would still like to investigate the response you received from our support team. You cared enough to post about this on the forum even though your account is closed, and I care enough to make sure our support team is providing the best support possible.

An important detail lacking with all of the information you posted is that the times in questions are either at 1) rollover or 2) market open. These are not random times at which the market is moving (even if by only 4 pips as Kanzler points out). Rollover and the market open are two periods where illiquid market conditions are a regular occurrence. In fact some brokers shut down completely at rollover because they have few liquidity providers to maintain pricing at that time.

For everyone's clarification, all the Marketscope charts that Scandisk posted are set to California's time zone (Pacific Daylight Time) which is three hours behind New York (Eastern Daylight Time). That means when his charts say 14:00, that corresponds to 17:00 New York time. This is an important detail because 17:00 New York time marks the end of one 24-hour trading day in the global forex market and the start of the next. It's typically a time of very low trading volume, since the business day has just ended in New York, but not yet picked up for the new day in Tokyo. Banks will use this quiet time to apply rollover interest to open positions and refresh their servers. They will often widen their spreads when they do this. On Sunday, 17:00 New York time is the start of trading for the week and banks will often start by quoting slightly wider spreads since the new trading week has just begun and volume is extremely low. They usually tighten their spreads after a few minutes once they get a feel for where other banks are trading for the new week. Any potential news event that occur over the weekend, such as what we saw a few weeks back when the Cyprus bailout was announced, can cause gaps at the open.

On our No Dealing Desk price feed, 10+ liquidity providers stream competing price quotes. All we do is take the best bid and ask prices for each currency pair being quoted at any given time and stream it onto the platform with a fixed pip markup which acts as our commission. That determines the spreads you see on your platform. The prices are not set arbitrarily as you may have with many dealing desk brokers. Additionally, the dealing desk feed is derived directly from the NDD feed rather than by FXCM. Therefore you are seeing the actual pricing based on liquidity during this period and not a sugar coated view of the market. Spreads can vary, especially when you are viewing illiquid market conditions around 17:00 New York time on weekdays and when the trading opens for the new week on Sunday.
