Woah, chill down neckbeard. We know it's maintenance time for the platform, that's why we're asking if we can log-in using the "secure sign in" page and not through the platform. You do know these two things are different right?

Every users gets the same message. I get the same message that you get.

So STFU and listen, the login page on the website is the login page to your whole FXTrade account so of course you can't login to that one too because it is part of maintenance. Pretty easy actually.

The platform and access to the website are different.

The website: Give you personal information, withdrawal requests, leverage, etc. You can't trade through the website
Platform: Charting tools, java program that allows you to trade through the website.

OANDA said it's only the platform so that's why I asked a clarification but you instead had to be an ass about it because you probably don't have that much friends sitting all the time in your basement trying to be a hotshot trader in forexfactory.

OANDA will be performing maintenance on the fxTrade, OANDA MT4 and fxUnity servers beginning the evening of Friday, February 1, 2013 at 5:00pm EST until Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 11:59pm EST. During this time fxTrade, OANDA MT4 and fxUnity will not be accessible. There is always the possibility that scheduled testing may take longer than originally anticipated, so please note that the above times may vary.

Every Friday afternoon on the LOGIN page there is a link to the forum that provides DETAILED info about what's going on, slow reader. If you still don't get what maintenance on servers means then better go to school again. Of course platform as well as account management is PART OF the whole maintenance.

I have been monitoring the "dynamic spread". Last week I downloaded FXCM's desktop platform. Today, EURJPY on ONADA was moving from 1.8 to 2.8. Mostly 2.1 to 2.8. It use to be 1.9 to 2.0, except on news.

FXCM was 1.8 to 2.3 - I traded with FXCM years ago when it was a bucket shop.

Now FXCMs spreads are competitive, on the whole, of the 5 currencies I currently trade.

What was ONADA thinking.

oandas spread on gbpnzd is usually twice that of fxcm.I guess they focus only on the majors.

The spread displayed "per se" doesn't tell you anything.

If you trade manually, meaning no robots or EA, by the time you see the spread on your screen, click to enter the trade and the trade is actually execute, the price could be different and usually is.

It is easy for FXCM to squeeze 0.5 pips or more on each trade if they want so don't go crazy about what you see. By the time you see it is no longer there, it is already the past.

In one of the forums, somebody posted tick data from API for EUR/USD pair. In one second price moved in 1-3 pips range creating more than 30 tick's....
What you see and what uou get - big difference.

sometimes fxcm has lower spread, sometimes oanda during the day

I agree with what you're saying, but also you have to agree, it's easy for Oanda to squeeze .5 pips or more on each trade. I think what the OP was saying was, FXCM is now offering lower spreads on that pair.

To me, the "dynamic spread" Oanda is "offering" to us traders is complete bullshit. They used to be the best broker with the best spreads, but now they seem to not care they appear to be another "bucketshop". They act like they are doing traders a favor by offering these NEW AND IMPROVED SPREADS, but honestly, it's just smoke and mirrors to increase their bottom line.

Their spread is not competitive any more, even FXCM FXDD are catching up. The new CEO mentioned some ladder pricing in the future, we will see what will happen.

If is necessary, it's time to cut cost of this company. Forex brokering business is no longer in golden times, with fierce competition, the margin is razor. And technology is a bit mature, with someone like Intergral offering, it's better to keep company in smaller scale.

From this point, FXCM may not be the stronggest to survive, nor Oanda, but ILQ likes.

Agree 100% Oanda and FXCM can squeeze sub pip or even more, easily. I'm not protecting oanda at all.

What we as traders have to keep in mind is that the displayed spread is more a form of advertising than something you can trust.

We have to see the spread more as a range than something exact.

If you can't handle 1.5 or 2 pip spread what kind of strategy are you using?

These kind of spreads are very fair IMHO.

After many years with Oanda I am thinking about to leave because of the dynamic spreads.
Not only because the spreads are bigger -like now 2 pip (!) under normal market conditions, but I cannot place an order exactly without a trade through or first touch order possibility.

Looks like most of traders here are daytraders. So every single pip counts
Depends how to look at this problem - business is business. Market makers are here to make money, not to give it to somebody else.
