At NFP time the demo server was absolutely fine. No problem.

Live server (DC2) froze and dropped out several times.

It seems to me DC2 and DC4 more suitable for Malaysia. I'm on demo right now and doesn't experience any drop out connection.

DC2 didn’t freeze on my computer at NFP, I was watching last night, normally I’m not.
No freeze-up at my end.



Let me add this.
1. You were running Live and Demo which means you were receiving two streams of data at the same time.
2. I was watching the H1 chart you were probably watching the M5 or M1, which also multiplies the amount of data your computer has to display.
3. M5, M1, are just for excitement. You can’t keep it up long enough to consistently make profit, because one hour trade on the H1 is twelve trades on the M5 and not much more pips. So why give yourself a heart attack, when you can sit-back and relax on the H1 or higher.

Look at my post her and see the difference from M1 to H1 and ask the question. Is it worth it?

Thank you for your comment, but I really dont think a trading lesson will fix this problem.

Whilst your comments are noted, I refer to 15min, 1hr and 4hr charts. I was on 1hr when the problem occured. But then it matters little when the service has also dropped out, which it did three or four times (as per usual).

Go has admitted a problem exists with a tiny number of clients. I was simply providing more factual data, as requested.

I am running two feeds on a decent adsl2+ service for the purposes as ascertaining data flow during high peak news times. I maintain max 500 bars in history, too. This problem began some 3~4 months ago and is a regular event. Yes, I have spoken to Go and was asked to advise these "events". I find it easier to do it here rather than via email.

Chris, the freeze happened about 5 seconds after news release, by which time price had already moved a fair distance. The demo platform performed just fine, with no obvious freeze whatsoever.

No, it did not. You are wrong.

Your connection to it may have dropped out, but the server did not freeze or drop out. I was connected the whole time.

E-mail Chris and get him to call you and change your platform from the auto search for server its doing now and lock it on to Sydney ...or enter 118.127.74.114:443 into your sever data center option..

I have and its fixed my drop out problem..

I am sorry. I was obviously mistaken. There's no doubt whatsoever that you are 100% correct. It's great to know that someone out there is always on top of things.

We so often think that we're connected to the internet and directly to GoMarkets.

Well no we’re not.

In the pic you will see that from my computer, Beauty Point, Tasmania to GoMarkets Melbourne, Victoria, there was seventeen hops from one server to another, to another, to another…got the point?

Seventeen servers and it only takes one to hiccup and you have a delay.

1a) Can you advise what hours is the MetaTrader 4 (Market Watch Time) platform is available for trading?

1b) will this change during any type of daylight saving time?

1c) Can you update this info on your FAQ pages?

The live chat support person said (after hours) 23:59 was when the platform stopped trading and that he was 100% sure of this.

Obviously he was mistaken. It appears that it was 22:59. I told him i wanted to be sure as I was setting up my EA. No big deal; in fact I may be further in profit slightly. But still.

Hi Chris,

You are wasting your money with this news feed & only to say there is news feed. Please pick MNI at least unless you took decision to offer bloomberg free but even bloomberg would be great but too wide & not so focused. while this MNI FX bullets are great with some rumors & talk of buyer.

I use it quite often to see if a website is in a safe part of the world.

There’s one more program on the same page that I use also, it’s SmartWhois by TamoSoft. It will find out who owns a website or email address. Again I use this for safety reasons.

It's a half decent tool but deceptive for those who don't understand how the internet works. Every connection you see on the web hops from one server to the next as information is passed along from point A to point B. The farther away you are from the server you want to connect to, the more "hops" you'll have to experience as your information works its way from one point to the next.

Co-location is a big deal for some people because that means ideally, you only have to experience one hop whereas some one like me in Canada attempting to connect to say the GM servers in Sydney may experience several hops if i were trading from my own computer. This is what causes latency in connections and why some people may see slippage when others who are closer to the servers will not.

Think of it this way. Imagine if you place an order to a server some where and it takes only 76 milliseconds to actually get to your broker. Mind-numbingly fast by most standards. seriously, try to count to 75 milliseconds. You can't even form the thought in your head before the time has passed right? On the internet though, it's a whole different matter. Say some one has a connection which enables them to place an order in just 5 milliseconds because they are practically right next to the server. This means that in the time it took you to place an order (76 milliseconds) they could theoretically place 15 orders and get there before you every time. In the first come first serve world of trading, this is where milliseconds count because even though you're orders are going through quick, many other people may be getting theirs through quicker.

In short, if you're hopping from one server to the next, to the next, to the next and so on, you are indeed connected to the internet and directly to a server in terms of how the web works. You are connected "directly" to a server, you're just not co-located right next to it. This is why VPS services are important for some people and why many different people who are placing similar or even identical orders may experience different behaviour from some brokers.

Correct, Co-location should give the fastest response. However, even with all the hops my connection goes through, I have no issue with delays. I think it comes down to style/method of trading that is important.

However, just pointing out, if one of those servers is stressed or overloaded, it can cause delay, and that has nothing to do with GoMarkets.

It doesn't really relate though, and we have noticed some stories creeping through that are perhaps not essential information for trading Forex. The feed is being changed as we speak!
