Over the last few weeks I have been trading London and New York....charts froze some times for a 1min or so and again tonight both sessions..

It is now costing as the stops are not being applied while its froze..

Last week I had a pending order that I could not close as the platform was telling me it was invalid then an hour later it placed the order sadly at a 50 pips loss...
Are you able to confirm drop out times? Do they coincide with those that I have specified?

The period you last refered to , I can confirm....what i will do is tonight London session I will note the drop out times...
If iam trading the New york session I will do the same..that way you can compare.

Agreed, but note that it only occurs with a large sudden price movement

Yes that would be correct, the other time it appears to happen is in the first hour or so of London around the news again increased volume, thats when it froze on me for 90 seconds last week..

Hi Guys,

Can I confirm what DC you were connected to? Mpt, I know, as we have spoken before who you are and it looks like you were connected to DC2 (Melbourne). Calstock, do you know if you were as well? If you contact me and give me your login number I can check that.

One thing I do note is that at one of the times you mentioned, the usage on our Melbourne DC reached its highest ever level (around 200% higher than 8 minutes earlier), well above our previous high. We have already taken the action to get our capacity increased for this.

It didn't affect all clients, probably only a handful (less than 1% show a disconnection arount that time). Also, I can say that it didn't affect everyone as I had it running at home and I have a number of monitoring tools to alert of any freezes in price feeds, as did our IT guys in Sydney and they also reported no interruptions.

Obviously It would be great to get alerted to this direct, not just through the forum, but without people like you alerting us, we wouldn't be able to make the necessary upgrades, so thanks!

With MT4, if the server broker agree, I can open many orders in only one second.
The issue of MT4 is not certainly speed.

I suggest you have a client-side tools that can log and/or send reports to GoM when client disconnects. The monitoring tools are certainly good from broker side. But would be great if you offered these tools to clients as well.

actually, the net position trading that MT5 will offer will allow much faster exit/offset. Right now, you must offset each position. If you have hundreds of orders, it can take a couple of min to offset everything at once. But with MT5, you would only have to offset one net position (per pair) to close out the trade.

This is in addition to the debugging/multi-core backtesting, 64-bit native platform, etc that MT5 brings to the table. As one programmer told me: "MT4 is like 1990, MT5 is like 1999" It's a significant enough difference to make it worth evaluating.

But as GoM has mentioned, MT5 is not replacing MT4, it will be an ADDITIONAL platform to use for trading. I think most other brokers will follow suit, especially if the cost to continue leasing is negligable. It would probably be be 2-3 years before a permanent switch is made, which would give people enough time to port over indicators. Those that never went with MT4 may only have MT5 if they want to break into Metatrader. I understand that it may take until 3rd quarter, 2011 before most brokers go live with it, although I'm sure there will be live betas with existing clients (similar to MBT).

Do you think current news feed is used? I checked it many times & really useless in FX trading.

Hi,

To be honest I do not personally look at the news feed on our platform all the time, as we have other systems in our office. However, I am happy to pass these on for someone to have a look at. Obviously if our feed isn't insightful enough, I will see what can be done.
