The Real W.D. Gann Trading Methods

I've been studying W.D. Gann since 2014 — not the simplified version you find in most courses, but the actual methods: planetary price conversions, astronomical timing, Square of 9, planetary fan lines.

I spent years going in circles — buying every course, reading every PDF, trying to crack Gann with indicators and trend lines like everyone else. Nothing worked until I went back to what Gann actually wrote about: planets, degrees, and time cycles. That's when everything changed.

The problem was always the same — the calculations take forever by hand. So I built tools that do them instantly using real astronomical data.

This thread is where I share how I use these methods on live markets.

WHAT I WORK WITH:

Planetary Price Levels (GPL)
Each planet has a real position in the sky. That position converts to a price level. When multiple planets point to the same zone — that's where reversals happen.

Planetary Fan (Mikula's "Fourth Dimension")
Not the straight-line fan you see everywhere. These curve because they follow the planet's actual speed. The 1×1 master line = balance between price and planet. When price touches it — watch for the turn.

Square of 9
Price-to-degree conversion. Harmonic levels that repeat across every market.

Astro Calendar
Conjunctions, squares, retrogrades, eclipses — the planetary events that line up with market turning points.

Thank you for sharing this, really appreciate the depth here.

I've been trading Gold and Forex using a modified Wyckoff approach, structure, supply/demand zones, and volume context.

I just discovered your thread and took a first look at the GPL Daily Report on GannChart.ai.

What immediately caught my attention is how clean the planetary levels are as potential reaction zones.

The Venus Trine at 4508 you highlighted is a great example, from a Wyckoff perspective, that area also aligned with a clear supply zone where smart money had previously distributed.

I'm planning to use the GPL levels as an additional confluence layer on top of my structure analysis, not replacing my method, but filtering entries where both systems point to the same zone.

A couple of questions if you don't mind:

1. In your experience, which aspects (Square, Trine, Opposition) tend to produce the strongest reactions on Gold?
2. Do you pay more attention to the "Strong Levels" (the 8 highlighted ones) or do you also trade the weaker levels depending on context?

regarding your question, in my experience the strongest aspect, is conjunction/ opposition then square and trine.
And I use both. There are no strong or weak levels. I may fix this tool but sometimes a weak level gives you a better opportunity so it depends on the market and the conditions and also on the price action around these levels.

The horizontal lines on this chart aren't drawn by hand. They're calculated
from real planetary positions using W.D. Gann's method.

Price pushed into a planetary resistance cluster and rejected immediately.
Took the short, closed at the next planetary support below.
Simple setup:
- Resistance = planetary line above price
- Confirmation = rejection candle at the level
- Target = next planetary line below
- Stop = above the cluster
No indicators, no moving averages. Just astronomy + price action.

One of the most powerful charts in Mikula's book

the planetary fan using Geocentric Mercury and Mars at 1/8 price unit,
1×1 ratio.

Look what happens:
- Mercury fan catches the downtrend perfectly from the 1993 top
- Mars fan catches the reversal at the 1994 low
- Mercury/Mars average fan guides the 1995 recovery
- Every major swing respects the 1×1 master line

This is what Gann meant by "price balancing with the planet." When
price meets the 1×1 line — the trend changes.
Now here's the same method on today's market:

Same concept. Same math. Different market, 30 years later.
Still works.
The curved lines follow the planet's real daily movement — not fixed
angles. That's why they catch reversals that straight-line fans miss.

When the thread started, I assumed from the date (April 1st) that it would be filled with mumbo-jumbo BS and end 24 hours later with some kind of "April Fool 'Gotcha' " - but no!!

There really are (a few) people who believe in this stuff, and that it will help them to be able to trade profitably! Either they believe it, or they're just fervently "hope", anyway.

Unsure whether to be dismayed or just amused, here (but I guess we need these losers in the markets?).
