I'm sure you're right, the loss of Kharg Island is going to be a terrible outcome for Iran. But adding to your comment, if Iran has been preparing for this war for some time (I've read this often, so let's assume there is some truth to it), then a US invasion of the island is going to be difficult, and escalation from that point has the potential to be extremely dangerous.

Securing the Island will no doubt be costly to both sides, but it should be the type of campaign where the US will have tactical superiority and so will win. The US will want the oil, but it's pretty easy and inexpensive for Iran to prevent this by firing rockets/drones from the Zagros mountains. A bigger concern is that, as you point out, this is an existential threat to the Iranian regime. They can't settle for peace, as it would be economic suicide and an end to the current regime. They can't fight a conventional war to retake the island, which (IMO) leaves escalation of their regional campaign in a bid to bring about a full-scale regional war.

My hope is that the US build-up is used to contain the war rather than escalate. A large US military presence with the ability to take the island but not actually putting boots on the ground, could lead to a short-term ceasefire, which could give both sides a de-escalation pathway.

If the revenue from the Island is disrupted the Iranian economy will implode ( oil being the main source of revenue) leading to internal pressures within the country itself , instability and regime change are correlated.

The Island is the pivotal point of this war , it’s common knowledge between both parties

Iran has hundreds of missiles pointing at Kharg Island. It would be interesting to watch the US try to 'take' it. The oil doesn't come from the island, it's just a hub, and the shut-off valves are way inland safely tucked away behind secure barriers. If the island is destroyed, the US is going to have more than just Iran to answer to. Trump always talks a big game, but doesn't think past his orange nose.
