I think you misunderstood what the range meant. Yes it was a great time to scalp and this is the advantage of retail trading. You can make a shit ton of money for most of the range if you have good pattern recognition. But the range itself was never bound to break higher because this isn't a game of dice or roulette. This is a time-series event and it had a HIGH probability of happening. Believe it or not, bond yields came out high and institutions are adding bonds to their financial products. Whether you like it or not, this is how the market moves. Institutions squeeze all year to get a 10-50% gain and you're out here with the potential to make thousand % returns and yet you take trade setups for the wrong reasons. Taking a trade setup in a range to profit from candle behaviors is OK but imagine you sat down and thought to yourself a few weeks ago 'what if it's Warsh as fed nominee and not Hassett, why are markets pricing in Hassett? Let me look into this Warsh guy...oh shit! he's anti inflation and a big fan of QT, ok!'

What if after the crash you thought 'maybe this is underpriced, let me wait a little and once it shows momentum I could buy a strong position and then wait a few days and hedge as big news week is coming in and bond yields will come out.

Sometimes you have to think big to win big. If you keep thinking in terms of 'daily wins' bro let me break it down for you: You will lose in the long run because you cannot adapt to your environment. The gold rush is over.

That hurts, anyone know why it moved down hard like this?
I was scalping long successfully for every move down for the past few days.. Most of that profit is gone in this stupid move down. I should have known better.. I felt it acting different today than the upside strength it was showing until yesterday.

No worries, it will stabilize again. It always does, as it must, and it is inevitable. It will also reveal to you a clear trend to follow and to slowly gain money from. Just wait.

If you can, avoid NY session, 90% of the time gold acting crazy is during ny - mostly at the end of the week / month.
also if you read price action you can tell a strong move can happen because it was choppy for almost a week now

Brother if you're scalping and you're loosing multiple times on the same move then just quit for the day. Losses come in bundles. My rule is if I get a move wrong twice, I will quit until new levels are defined.

Allow me disagree, the same way you don't accept price action aka based in pattern recognition i am allowed to disagree that is needed to trade and living from trading as an investor only.
Already had distinguish both at this forum...
And a range is not people usual think either i know with a high accuracy where price should go breaking above 5081 and the correct fractal to signal it, it simple didn't, it did break 5037.
The same way after the drop i said the exact test price will do it, the same way i enter at 4889.482 as the buffer zone of weekly resistance at 4860.667, the same way i had plot 5119.200 at the high.
To people that see the market as you do will never understand today market are moved by the fundamentals yes, but the price moves at daily basis regulated by an algo and us or big instituitons to me are in the same boat, we all don't control price in short term is why you are right but following price at daily basis yes is possible.
I don't need to be here sharing what i learn and everyday i learn because i always am focus in pattern recognition in 1st place.
I don't care about long term what prior day, week or month did if not to align with what i already identified as high probability, i am not always righ but i also don't use none below 70% so the math is easy.
Each candle have their own ratios in it and are respected or breaked and those are my ratios, break and retest, if fail is the simplest reversal pattern.
Proper risk management, knowing what price do when is wrong align with high probabilities pattern is hard to loose, special long term.
Support and resistances with correct ratios work, the catch is using them with proper fractal aligned.
Back in, just bullets, because i know the market conditions are, but again easy to know 4h median low...4908.400
