It sounds impressive: a $12 billion support package for American farmers hurt by Trump's trade and tariff wars. Zoom in, and you'll mostly see bandages on wounds he himself inflicted.

Import tariffs on products from China, Canada, Mexico, and the EU drove up costs, cut off export markets, and caused a decline in agricultural exports.

That's why American farmers are now receiving a check to ease the worst of the pain. It's being paid from the same tariff pool that initially decimated their income. Moreover, some of the money will go to the largest companies that are professional enough to know how to fill out the forms to maximize the benefits.
