BESSENT SAYS WHITE HOUSE MAY 'VETO' FEDERAL RESERVE PRESIDENTS: ABC

Bessent said he will push for Federal Reserve regional bank presidents to have lived in their districts for at least three years before taking office — a change that would give the White House more influence over the Fed.

Speaking at the NYT DealBook Summit, Bessent said there is a “disconnect” in how the Fed is structured and vowed to veto nominees who don’t meet the residency rule. His remarks follow criticism of regional Fed presidents who opposed rate cuts that President Trump has been urging. Dec 3, 2025 9:56am

It's runaway inflation and money in wheelbarrows to buy food. Politicians only care about short term headlines, they don't make decisions based on economic data. If Donnie gets control of the Fed, he'll be long dead before the full damage is counted, and he knows it so he doesn't give a rat's ass about the long term.

If Donnie and friends push hard enough to control the Fed, that's what happens. Erdogan did it in Turkey. Fired 3 central bankers who wouldn't drop rates for him. 4th one did what he was told. 80% inflation followed.

In Canada, we've never made that mistake. But Trump will do it in a heartbeat if he can.

Trump will take control of a majority of votes one way or another. There are already doves on the committee, he just needs to replace a few more hawks and interest rates are going to go way lower than they should be. Most everyone, especially people who own stocks, will be very happy.

Then one day in the future the bond market should react negatively to excessively low rates, but we can’t know when that day will come.

Honestly I wouldn’t mind if he takes interest rates to zero, then it blows up in his face. Maybe that will finally convince everyone of what really needs to be done. Which is take away the Fed’s interest rate setting power and let free markets take care of it.
