    Available indicators suggest that economic activity has been expanding at a moderate pace. Job gains have slowed this year, and the unemployment rate has edged up but remained low through August; more recent indicators are consistent with these developments. Inflation has moved up since earlier in the year and remains somewhat elevated. The Committee seeks to achieve maximum employment and inflation at the rate of 2 percent over the longer run. Uncertainty about the economic outlook remains elevated. The Committee is attentive to the risks to both sides of its dual mandate and judges that downside risks to employment ... (full story)

There's no point in hiding it all here in Italy. We're talking about a strong US economy, but how is that possible when they can't even reopen a government because there's no money? The tariffs are just scraping the bottom of the barrel, and the Fed is red.

I think the Fed is cautious because we might see increased inflation due to these trade wars going on with DJT. So it would not make sense to cut the rates so aggressively if they will be forced to hike rates later on. The goal is a steady reduction as they assess the situation plus the dollar selling due to Central banks stocking up on more gold plus selling of US treasuries by Brics nations just adds more inflationary pressure on the USD. Its a tight rope and they want to keep the balancing act going for as long as they can.

Your take is missing literally all of the nuance. Canada has been cutting because of the tariffs. We are one of their biggest customers.

The best FED what you can get for those salaries. You cannot expect to get practitioners with lots of investment experience. Those are good professors in their theories and they do good basic understanding of the matter. Otherwise those salaries need to be 10-fold at least. So far good job from FED.
