It would be awesome but it doesn't necessarily need to be filled. However I think a black swan may appear in the not too distant future. This could be in the form of the Supreme Court deciding the tariffs are illegal or a rogue country causing havoc - or simply the markets are way over valued and need a big correction. Any of which would fill the gap.

Seriously, though, if nobody has to work, and everyone is provided with a "basic" (or per Musk, a very high) level of "income", what does that then mean for Capitalism? What is the point then of having any transactions at all?

Employees and shareholders of AI, or AI involved, companies will get very very rich. The way they will get rich is companies worldwide will replace costly humans with very inexpensive AI, in one form or another.

So tens of millions of jobs in the world will be eliminated. No one knows how many, might only be 15 million, might be 150 million. But it’s all a direct transfer of wealth from ten of millions to the much, much smaller number of people who will become very wealthy.

My question is, this all seems completely obvious, so why doesn’t anyone care? I assume it’s because the significant layoffs haven’t happened yet so it’s easy to ignore. What happens to the world economy as AI gets better and better?

Suggesting that a ubi could fix the issues of ai destroying countless jobs is ridiculous. There isn’t enough wealth to keep the rich people happy and give everyone else what they need. If that were possible it would have happened already.

Somehow magically there is enough money to give everyone without a job $10k a month? Do the math, it’s ludicrous. Only way out of this is the population drops by half or the revolution starts where countless humans murder each other over trying to survive.
