I voted for Musk to go cut government waste, everywhere, including defense spending. I didn’t know republicans would refuse to listen to him and that the dems lies and smear campaign would be so effective. I wanted the current tax rates to remain, not go down, and spending to be slashed. Didn’t turn out that way. But again it’s a binary choice, Harris would have been much worse. Here’s your choice, bad or terrible, choose…

I hate the political system as is, pay DC representatives a couple million a year, never let them take direct money from anyone. That would go a long way to get rid of lying corrupt politicians.

We need to do something about the debt, yes. However the nonstop every single day anti US perma bears have been completely wrong about everything, everyday, thus far. There are many perma bears in history calling for all sorts of armageddon, they predicted it every year, and were always wrong. Calling for some far off thing that might happen someday? Completely pointless in the context of trading and detrimental to your profits, obviously. Every time some non American, who is completely obsessed with a country that’s not theirs lol, predicts terrible things ask them when. They will never answer that question.

Easy way to save money, make nice with China, India, and Russia then stop defending the rest of the world. Leave nato and make it clear you will do absolutely nothing when those helpless countries are attacked.

I’ve never seen a chart here that wasn’t either biased in its presentation or completely obvious to everyone already. There is not a single thing anyone on this entire website knows that the big investors don’t already know. You can never know what they know, but you can see what they do in this new thing most here have never heard of, it’s called price action.

But traders need to be able to admit when they are wrong and, as hard as it is, be ready to flip their position in the opposite direction of their opinion if price action dictates.

Be right about something “eventually” is nice for message boards but it means nothing for trading. Trading always has and always will contain a timing component. We can argue if time actually exists or is a figment of our imagination if you like, but it’s imperative in a trade.

You remember 2008? I was trading non stop that year. Congress refused to pass the “save our butts” bill, markets crashed even further instantly. Then and only then did they act. It’s obviously not good, but I’m afraid financial markets will have to force DC to address debt.

They can’t get elected by preaching austerity, they have to have something to blame for raising taxes and cutting spending. My number is pretty clear, if 10 year yields go above 5% and the government intervention to keep them below that fails, then people will have to act. Until then they will just enjoy their 401k balances going up everyday.

For those on the UK, why aren’t you asking your government to sell the 800 billion in US debt they hold? They are exacerbating the problem, not helping. You can’t get your government to do that any more than I can get DC to stop overspending.

I’d be in favor of cutting all government spending by 1% across the board. So that would include defense, but we all know there is waste in there. Then continue to cut by 1% a year going forward until things get back in order. By cutting everything, no one can complain about playing favorites. Do we really think a government agency can’t survive on 1% less than they got last year?

Every fiat currency has blown up, this is a fact. Theres nothing wrong with fiat other than its abused.

How America defaults is through inflation, like any banana republic.
You've got four ways to deleverage, and looking at Trump's made-up economics, it's going to be No. 2, just like all banana republics go.
You can't outgrow the debt when it goes over 120%. What happens, like Japan, is growth and futures disappear.

Only once I commented on a FF metals forum without noticing that I wasn't logged into that specific division. A dialogue box came up saying that this comment will be viewed by FF moderators before being posted. FF never posted that comment of mine. Rates are going to zero, it’s the only viable option for the US to subsidise its debt pile . The dollar will be trash, then just watch the inflationary spiral.

I’d say anyone who has children and wants that future to be prosperous and happy, then the US needs to tackle this problem asap , otherwise the markets will resolve it .

Gotta love math. NVDA up 47% since tariffs? Which round?

NVDA FELL 40%+ from the start of tariff nonsense back in Dec and then rallied, with the rest of the market to highs/new highs. That's like withdrawing half of the money from your back account, taking a screenshot of the balance, depositing it again and the saying: "look, I have 100% more money now!"

You wouldn't have had "more" without making it less first.

But I digress. No one can argue the resilience of the US equity markets. Even I am impressed with the speed of this recovery (and now, having said that, is probably the EXACT moment of markets topping ).

Late July > Oct hasn't been very kind to us over the past 10 years though. Some of the larger pullbacks (even after run ups) have occurred during this period. Having sung "wake me up, when September ends" too many times of late, I, for one, will remain "long", but intend to reduce risk and avoid another potential 5-10% drawdown.

Cuts are coming....September is likely the first we'll see them though ....so only 200 more tweets about "fed should cut" between now and then I guess. Oh, and the obligatory dissention/mixed voting on cuts in July to pave the way for a Sept cut will no doubt have the president saying "see, others want to cut...Powell won't!" (as if the FOMC decision wasn't a vote)

I don't know if the US has to do much about its debt mountain. It looks bad, and it is politically charged, but financial 'innovation' on the scale of QE (2008) and helicopter money (Covid) may have changed the game. This type of innovation has occurred before, many times and hasn't always worked (printing paper money was a disaster for Weimar and Zimbabwe), but sometimes it has led to economic expansion (and war - Napoleon stopped gold convertability to fund his wars).

The US can only do so much with its budget without cutting bone. It cannot cut its defence spending without triggering a terminal and messy end to the US as it currently stands (think revolution rather than evolution). The US leads the world in territorial situational awareness, which is only useful if it backs it up with THE dominant global military. IMO - this means the level of debt that the US can sustain could be much higher than the current levels, and what we see is pantomime politics. The US needs to flex now and then to prove its military might, and the other powers stay in check (why not drop some of the world's most expensive munitions on a mountain, using some of the world's most expensive planes).

I realise that this means I am suggesting that "this time it's different", and that's been said before, and then it wasn't. I'm bullish US in the long term, as long as it keeps military spending up (and uses Nato to keep the tier-2 military funding too), but I do not rate the current administration's ability to manage things in the short term.

My strategy is to reduce US exposure and rebalance widely, while in the short term, hedge sell-offs rather than buy the dip.

It's why Trump want negative rates. What comes after is huge inflation.

Trump will get his way. The FOMC will lower rates. Trump has many levers.
He will get what he wants, at whatever the cost to the US economy. But, this market will probably leg up after every rate cut.
