Not posting this chart update below for any reason other than to try & help explain my word meanings and (sometimes) price behaviours.
Notice I mention sometimes. It does NOT always play out folks, be careful.

Which is why I also say Trade Safe first.
It's a minefield out there, market makers, liquidity providers, brokers. Treat the market with respect (it can do what IT wants to do at any point in time, imo)

I am trading on and off these days but still here often. I traded early Tokyo session yesterday and will be glad if there are some input from you. I also try and look for attractors as destination or exits. It was a quite a small trade but worked ok. As per the chart, there were a number of attractors but i exited a bit early just to be safe.

Mate looked a good trade to me.

Myself I don’t have the Tokyo open horizontal line on my charts but I do put a “vertical” line on my chart at the 03:00 and also 04:00 (11am for us) timeframe as some Yen news is often at 02:50 and I wait for the market response then at the o’clock and I put another vertical line then at 04:00 which is the start of a new 4hr candle for those traders that prefer 4hr blocks (not me, but I like to see what ‘they’ do there).

Your trade itself would have satisfied me (around +14p) in early Asia.

You W, should be able to see what prices I write in the text below and follow on your own chart template,
apologies to others who won't have the same on their current chart.

Now, W, I might have got sucked in earlier myself for a trade on the 3:03/4 1min candle just under the 193.250 RNQ (maybe) and then gone thru some DD till it reverted back down again so your entry was better & more patient, well done, .... while once IN the trade (yours or my earlier possibility) I would have been looking then to TP below that long 18 x 1 mins of range/aggregation/inflection around the 193.085 price line - which looked to me a classic George Herd Lineup waiting to be busted (or reversed above against it lol) and if busted lower then the Prev Week Low Target Attractor at 193.038 would have been my 1st port of exit consideration with the close confluences of the (18May) Day S1 line and just under that the BRN 193.000. IF I had been in a trade there I would likely have done what you did and got out early before the 193 BRN to put a ‘lock’ trade TP straight in my a/c in case they flipped price back.

While they did then run price down further towards the 192.750 but notice that they then flipped before hitting the .750 and missing that RN by just 2.2 pips (which is why I like to TP as a ‘lock’ profit most times hahaa else they then ran price back up against this time to the BRN again and there goes minus 25 pips ouch).

Hope all this makes some sense to you hahaaa.

In the end you traded for TP and could just keep doing that over & over and with regular positive payouts you will get the feel for holding off on TP a few pips more. I like to think I could always just go back in later and trade soon after TP if the market still runs and I do that more often these days (only twice tho, 3rd time is often NOT a charm) but maybe do it with “their money” (ie your profits I mean, after some wins and NOT chasing lol).

Crikey what a day for the GJ, looks like USDJPY was driving all this.

I do prefer the market to have moved hahaa when I come back for Franky/London but today is a rort maybe who knows (yet).

Still, they did complete the Bermuda from London open yesterday to closing it just before.

What will the City Of London crew have up their sleeves in 45 mins
Sometimes they just range/aggregate before stretching price out later to pre-NY
We will know soon enough.
I've got mine, might just hang onto it, will see what fake'n'flip play (maybe both directions who knows) London come up with.

Trading the GBPJPY involves (imo) being aware of what its Majors are doing during the day (USDJPY & GBPUSD).

I should clarify I don't trade what UJ or GU are doing, I only trade what GJ is doing in & around and to & from any targets (trader attractors).

However my personal End Of Day Reviews that I store each morning for myself DO include the respective Majors of the GJ.

So today, I like to share what I see happened in an interesting day yesterday with the GU.

I understand your writing, all good.

Basically I wish to show here with charts what i see as the daily repetitive market behaviour as it relates to Targets (from my old George days).
From 15m swings, 4 hr swings and Hi-Lo's originally (which I always look at, as well) I now include round numbers, London & NY & week opens, "previous" days info hi & low and some major Pivot points (tho I am not a pivot trader).

I include all these targets with the idea that OTHER traders may/will show interest at those prices (horizontal lines) and therefore the larger market may react there. I do not pre-suppose that price will do a bounce or break anywhere I just observe what actually happens at the points. And then I might trade after that IN BETWEEN two targets (trader attractors) so I will say that I am a discretionary trader and make my choices based on what DOES happen (while always being aware the market can & does Fake a move and then Flip price over the other way - these are my considerations only as I have no absolute knowledge of what the market WILL do - although I have my own probabilities of what might happen). I trade from the 15m chart (and 1min if necessary to finesse an entry - remember also I make mistakes lol and get drawdown - I have nothing as perfection - just logical entries imo and then manage the trade well enough.

So I do not use candle formations no, while everything at some point also is a break of (some) structure so I don't over focus on that word. Let the market show its plans on movement is best for me. So mainly experience now while you could use a Trade Simulator if you can over the weekends and just watch what they do with price, especially around & towards (and from) Targets. Eye opening (imho).

A quick example lol, just earlier after the GBP news at Franky Open, and now with London still over a ½hr away (ie what will they do).

Why is Week (S)1 a Target for the news spike. Someone/thing wanted price there, almost to the pip (also they do like to run past a little or stop before also).
I am not a pivot trader, as what is Support meant to imply.

Look above at the Day (S)1 line, did price get held by support there.
Which is why I put the (S) in brackets as it tells me its a Target Trader Attractor Line. But I dont consider it as a firm support line.
Though I do consider that other traders may see it as support.
And if they trade it AS support then I always ask myself WHO is taking the equal & opposite side to that trade at the very same time.
Some food for thought, is all.

Is it important
Can it be used
if so how
Does it help with ( Targets and Direction ) etc

It is hard to write these and cover all aspects in words that folks grab and will understand.

The bottom line is I believe (in my head & heart lol) that the market steps price up & down a target staircase on its way to a “destination”. If that was the case then trading between two targets seemed a good beginning for me. The (two) targets do not have to be one & the next as they appear on a chart, they could be two targets ultimately with many of the other targets inside the outer two. That is the traders choice imo. I never know where the market will ‘end’ price and I stopped worrying about that a long time ago.

Math, as you know can well determine the ‘ultimate’ end point of a session run and can be used for that purpose. Simple math for me these days (and I can/do go deeper) is now intraday and also intra-session.

The easiest of these (for me) is the ADR compared to current range. And another I use (simplistically) is a 50% retrace from a recent substantial swing.

I guess this is what you are asking regarding daily range & expansion but I don’t look for a numerical outcome to that just WHERE are the next outer Targets lined up as price. Saves doing any deep math but also has me closing trades for TP early as I like to bank them, rather than thinking maybe they can still run to the “next” target or the one after that. Keeps it simple for me. Pocket my TP is first consideration, for me, not how much (more) can I get in this run. The post London & NY session can give more of course but I am usually (hopefully) with the Shop Now Closed sign hanging out. I used to trade 12 hours a day but don’t need to do that at this point.

So imo range and expansion ARE important for certain style of trading and many of those folk have tried to impart that on threads, this and others, but I could never get it to fit into Asia & pre-Franky=London for me. (In asia for example they like to set a High and Low for the session often (not always) without extending/expanding before London. Post London traders will have a better idea than me.

Again, it is easier for me to just post a chart, which shows the known-in-advance targets that I look for each day and where I look for a wide enough target-spread to enter to make it all worthwhile. Often these are not single trade runners in Asia but multi 10-12 pip typer trades where they are basically giving those pips away (imho). AND doesn’t mean I don’t get caught on the side of the aggregations where the market makers have to push me into DD for a period based on I am doing what “other” traders (retail) are doing and therefore I become a target for them also. My task then is knowing if its a chase or a solid move in which case I close and get out of their way till it settles.

I do not trade USDJPY, but I watch it. This might make it helpful rather than GJ again.
