The Two Zones

There are two zones in every chart
Where price begins, and where it parts
One is empty, waiting still
Hoping price will come and fill

The other’s full, with moves complete
Where buyers came and made retreat
But full zones too must fade one day
As price will often clear the way

Empty zones will pull things back
Full ones may lead to a track
So wewatch and learn the signs
As price repeats in steady lines

Finally found somehwhat of a break through. Silver has repeated this exact same ICT pattern 3 times this week "Seek and Destroy" , and it looks like it consistently loves doing so. So pissed because I didn't get to trade any of them cause I was looking for swings mainly, no worries tho. I got some amazing insights this week, great week again boys .

Edit: I take it back about it loving to consistently do so. Maybe this week was so clean because price had the HTF FVG as a nice draw on liquidity throughout the week. It's a possibility.

What Is “Seek and Destroy”?
“Seek and Destroy” refers to a market behavior at the beginning of a trading session (usually during the London or New York open) where:

  1. Price seeks out liquidity (usually by running previous highs or lows)
  2. Then reverses direction to destroy late or uninformed traders who got trapped
  3. It "clears the board" before the real move of the day starts

How It Works (Typical Setup)

  1. Identify a Range or Consolidation Zone

    1. Usually formed during the Asian session or pre-London hours

  2. Price Runs Above/Below That Range

    1. This is the "seek" — grabbing stop losses or breakout entries
    2. A lot of traders get baited into taking a position

  3. Reversal Happens

    1. Price then "destroys" those positions by reversing hard
    2. This is where smart money takes control and the true direction for the day unfolds

Forgive me, but there is no truly defined market behavior; everything is based on current small opportunities that are largely random. Sometimes opportunities last a long time, sometimes they are short-lived.

Proof: Look at today’s GBPNZD chart. Consolidation actually occurred after the New York Open and during the Asian session (I divide the day into three 8-hour sessions), yet GBPNZD broke upwards very quickly and showed a clear "destroy" movement and there is no "seek". We used to believe that candles in the Asian session were small because most trading activity historically occurred during the European session (after London Open) and the American session. However, in 2025, this is no longer the case.

Thanks for your response senior but I wanted to clarify that this isn't a setup that occurs all the time and it works best only in certain market conditions from what I understand. Our job as a trader is to be able to properly identify when these setups are happening and to make informed trade descisions off of them. This is a setup your looking to take maybe once or twice a week off one asset and in total about maybe once a day across 3 assets you may mainly trade. I looked at GBP/NZD that you were talking about and while the setup didn't happen today it also happened on monday and tuesday just like with silver and that's honestly quite interesting, I might start watching monday and tuesday specifically, you gave me a flash of insight.

I also chart my sessions a bit irregular to help with my trading style. Asian session for me is 8 hours. London session is 5 hours and New york session is 11 hours. As soon as the money from the New york stock exchange starts coming into the market I count the London session to have ended and completely ignore the London-NY overlap as London doesn't matter to me anymore. This helps me to see the bigger picture. This is just how I learnt it so it's fine if you disagree.

That simple consolidation idea is exactly what I like. The range itself isn’t really an issue—it’s whether it sits below or above the trend. Master traderathome adds whole or half levels (for example, a whole level at 162.00 and a half level at 161.50) to identify whether price is below or above, and we’re greatly helped by the volume indicator, which I interpret here as increased activity. One more good idea: someday you could start a ‘consolidation traders’ thread for everyone whose entries are based solely on consolidation.

I don't think it's specifically friday, it happens throughout the week. Then again I have heard the the term used for multiple things.

Edit : So after some quick research, so it doesn't specifically happen on fridays but it's one of the most common days it shows up because.

  1. Fridays often involve profit-taking by institutions
  2. Weekly highs/lows are usually clear targets by then (liquidity pools!)
  3. Smart money loves to reverse the market to clean up late retail entries before the weekend
  4. It’s a prime day for "book balancing" by banks
