Hail fellows, ex FX trader here now about to start up again but only trading commodities, primarily Silver and Gold basically due to the leveraging legislation in the UK.

Going over my old entry/exit strategy (pretty reasonable in a consolidating market, horrible in a trending markets, I'll be making major adjustments I assure you).
Anyway one of my previous strategies incorporated COT data.

Do you guys and gals follow the COT for gold as any sort of confirmation indicator? Sorry if this has been discussed recently. Thanks DD

If you noticed, i know others do, the movement of the day was made in Asia, is only a question of know the asset, it can be the open, it can be the close and it can be the high or the low...

Did you have a bad experience with something or just developed from reading things like trade naked, use price action?

Let me explain; I think an "indicator" that draws a fixed price level, say the Weekly Open, is not really an indicator but a UTILITY.

These levels will be the same for everyone, unlike say, a moving average where there are so many different settings.

Or a Vertical Line to show the start and end of a session, that's a Utility for me.

I will share charts to explain, and help others, I don't think you use MT4 and won't be impressed.

Market will continue to be quiet today I reckon, so let's do it.

As mentioned, I reckon it is easier to see the price levels and sessions times used by our esteemed trader, MissD, by using "indicators"

Love them or hate them, here is how to do it.

First, a blank canvas, what does she observe the chart for?

In order of importance:
(1a) What she calls the US End session, the last 6-hours of the day
(1b) The Shanghai session, 4-hours as per her specifications
(2) The Weekly, high, low, mid-point, and open
(3) The range of Monday + Tuesday High to Low

I have added a visual for:
(4) Wednesday
(5) Round Numbers (Google that if you don't know)
(6) Market Price, with descriptive label, makes saving Templates so easy

Moving on, click the "KZ" for Killzone to observe the various sessions

High Low, Mid-point, pips, it's all there.

Must get tedious to move so many lines daily and be accurate as well.

Yes, but only the weeks where it goes from Monday high or low to the Friday low or high as shown.

This is the premise of observing the Monday + Tuesday range for breakouts.

Holiday over, back to trading plan.
We're still in ranging mode.

Second touch of the top ~2940 has provided a significant drop so far
Second touch of the bottom ~ 2878 has provided a mediocre bounce, due to Monday US holiday.
So not much we can do at the moment. Avoid trading is also a strategy. Especially when in a range, you don't like to have orders in the middle where the possibility of price either up or down is 50-50.
The best scenario is to wait at the top or bottom, depend on your bias.
On news calendar. There isn't much data for USD, except Friday, probably it could recover for the time being. But don't get over exciting. Gold very much doesn't care about any above lately.
