Interest rates are a measure of risk. It's the compensation for the risk that the investor incurs investing their money. The greater the risk, the greater the interest rate required. It is getting riskier and riskier to lend to the US, and any Western government for that matter. Not just because we are all bankrupt, but with the sanctions and now them wanting to confiscate Russian assets, governments will be more cautious about lending them money due to the risk of sanctions and confiscation of their assets if they do some thing Washington/Military Industrial Complex/The Swamp doesn't like.
