Stocks declined Thursday while investors assessed new consumer price data that indicates stubborn inflation. Treasury yields rose after the data came out.

The consumer price index increased 0.4% on the month and 3.7% from a year ago, according to a Labor Department report released Thursday. Dow Jones estimates were 0.3% and 3.6%, respectively.
