America was asked to reconsider the arms treaty relating to nuclear warheads they declined Russia's offer. They have ballistic missiles in Poland right next to Russia. Putin is annoyed at NATO's East creep into Russia, which the USA refuse to stop. I am sad for the people of America and Russia should a conflict start. Biden is just the idiot to push the button. I am pretty sure we will see a conflict in March. Already the people that know are moving their assets out of harms way. Looking at the capital flow will tell you beforehand what is going to happen.

1) What the hell has the United States to do with what happens in Ukraine?
2) Why the United States does not move out of Europe its NATO crapware?
3) Why is NATO encircling Russia making it feel uncomfortable?
4) How many countries with nuclear warfare capability love the United States?
5) Does the United States want to be destroyed by a nuclear missile shot from somewhere in the globe?

This is far from a game. Putin has wanted Ukraine for over a decade. It's essential to his survival, because Ukraine joining the EU spells the end of Russia's rulers. Read Timothy Snyder's book "Road to Unfreedom" to edgamacate on the subject.

In short, because the power dynamics shifted significantly when USSR failed and Russia gradually lost some of the influence it once had in Eastern Europe. Some areas are still pro-Russian, but not all so Russia will not make the mistake to jump in a second Afghanistan. Russians are not dumb and they learned in Afghanistan that a war cannot be won if they don't have significant support from the population. So instead of starting a war in Ukraine, they simply stir up the already present tensions so that it will never make it into NATO because the article 5 Collective defense would mean every other NATO member would have to go defend Ukraine and they don't want to.

Think you should check an updated map. Russia does have access to the Black Sea. They also have a history with PART of Ukraine. Short version of their long history is the Rus had no one to lead them 800 years ago. So they asked Genghis who was moving west through the Middle East to send them someone. He did and they ruled for 300 years. When the Czar was overthrown the soviets (cities) sent representatives to form a new government. Stalin was losing on votes so shackled the great hall seizing power with the support of the navy and some army. Then came the famine, then the occupation of the formerly free Eastern Europe nations after WW2. Poland etc. have reason to keep defenses up. Remember Crimea? When the USSR fell the Ukrainians chose freedom. Putin, btw, declared the breakup the greatest disaster of the 20th century. Best move is to have friendly relations with easy border crossing and free trade between Russia and Ukraine.
