Bad news -> stock market down > USD up (safe haven), JPY even more up (bigger safe haven). I mean, this is pretty straightforward.

Seems a lot of people aren't paying close attention to what Trump is really saying. He is NOT saying there won't be a stimulus bill passed before the election. All he's saying is that he and the Reps are no longer gonna negotiate with Pelosi/Dems, since they haven't changed their tune about the bailout money. Trump is exactly right to call Pelosi's bluff... the money she's demanding for Dem states/cities has NOTHING to do with COVID recovery. Nearly all those cities are Democratic-controlled (have been for decades), and have dug their financial holes totally on their own. And they've gotten worse recently due to their lack of response to the riots, even going so far as SUPPORTING them and telling cops to "stand down". So... WHY ON EARTH should they be handed tons of money to fix what THEY broke???!!

But having said that, I won't be surprised to see the Dems make a new offer, and the Reps come back to the table. As soon as the bailout part of the bill is fixed, I think pretty much everyone on both sides can agree to much of the other stuff, particularly the stimulus checks to individuals. We WILL have more movement on this, BEFORE the election.

Trump is the most investigated politician ever and there is nothing on him. Plenty of whines and charges proven false that many desperately want to believe and we all hear repeated endlessly. One wears out it's time to recycle another old disprover lie. Now the economy is getting back to normal except in Dem areas where it is purposely being held back. Trump is right to say NO to the whiney two year old Dems. Some need help for sure. Target them. Airlines need to shrink. Some of the layoffs being fretted about are really just a change from furloughed to laid off. Not working to not working. Dems are as usual trying to bribe people with their own money. Who are the fools?

Flight to "quality" usually means purchase dollars, yen and swiss currencies.

In THIS INSTANCE the reason the USD strengths is due to risk off PLUS when the all clear sound is given people will need lots of USD to re-purchase all the stocks that are about to be sold off the next week.

A bit of digging shows hospitalizations are continuing lower. Trump's approach is working. Biden shutting down businesses again will wreck the recovery.

You must not be here. People are rejecting the restrictions. Locally there is no longer a face mask requirement and even bars can operate at 100% occupancy. Numbers are not better where Governors make the most draconian orders, some even defying their state courts ruling they are illegal. The virus is fading in part because people are doing more hand washing. Also because it seems to be losing virility. Hand wringing has never helped.

I did find it a bit amusing. FYI my opinions are not simply from keeping up on the news. I do work removing the deceased. Plenty busy peaking in July. Back to the normal level now. I see it all. From a hospital putting one body bag into another early on, to a nursing home with an outbreak. Also work accident and crime scene deaths. Got my picture in the paper once walking the railroad track with a hazmat bag picking up body parts from a guy who had decided it was a good place for a nap. I have more information than the average citizen.

Pretty much the ONLY major sticking point has been the bailout money for poorly-run cities... which had ZERO to do with the virus, the shutdowns, etc. I don't blame the Dems for pushing for that (nearly all those cities are Dem-controlled), but they have no right to try to stuff it into THIS bill, holding up all the other assistance. I;m guessing everyone of the Trump circle who got Covid will get a treatment similar to what Trump got. Maybe not helicopter and executive suit but the right meds. That would prove that Covid is noting but a quick flu that doesn't even make you cough. If you die, it must be either your genes or your other underlying issues. Once all cleared the virus, this will be his bargaining chip and meanwhile he'll be half way towards his herd immunization plan.
And of course people will notice that they didn't get the same treatment that he and the buds got.

Probably some less Covid-educated folks went to a restaurant and took their masks off while drinking and eating chips for hours and hours. When they were told to put masks on if they intended to stay a long time with a bowl of chips in front of them, they pretended they had to eat one chip every 15 minutes.

If he had the facilities that most humans have like caring and compassion and the general recognition that when we bleed, we all bleed the same, he would have an easier time connecting with the human race. It actually IS working with Kim, quite well. I won't get into the specifics, but just know that this is some major juggling acts going on amongst ALL the parties involved. The most important thing to keep in mind is that Kim has been in a cage every bit as much as the poor citizens of NK. A golden cage to be sure, but still. I totally agree with your first sentence, and I think Trump does too. He has never said he doesn't want to help those cities... what he HAS said is that IF help comes, there's gonna be strings attached. That being that the leaders who have gotten them into this bad position to start will have to agree to make some major CHANGES. So that once fixed (or on the road to being fixed), it's less likely they'll mess things up again.

Just a point about herd immunization, it doesn't work with a mutating corona virus, the common cold is a good example. Just because someone had Covid they are by no means immune to it.
