Anyone read carefully the new terms and agreements of Oanda...?
Sounds to me that they are clearly not accepting anymore negative balance, and that slippge is the client´s full responsability!!
Meaning a margin call is not the limit of your losses...they will take your house, car, pants and shirt...

Good luck on the next black swan...

Remember swissy flying over stop losses, 1500 whopping pips, in less than an hour??

Hello everyone. I'm thinking of opening an account with OANDA and wanted to know some of the things to avoid. You know the ones that somewhere down the line you get blindsided by.

Are there certain things to avoid fund withdrawal and transfers. Or account hold difficulties?

Manage the risk. Simple answer. I made decent return in terms of dollars during SNB massacre on GB{/CHF. But if I was on a wrong side - my loss would be 30% of an account. No drama.
But if you guys know the possible risks at still trying your luck - you deserve to be burned.

Speaking of managing risk, I wonder if someone can explain to a newbie.....
I'm on Oanda's paper account till I fully understand the Forex markets. I was taken out on a stop
overnight at a price that never hit. I looked on the three charting software packages I have access
to and the lower wick NEVER hit my stop.
Do I understand correctly that I can be taken out of a position even if it never trades there? Something
about IF my stop is the bid or ask I get taken out, even if it doesn't trade there?

Oanda widens spreads overnight (during te Asian session), there´s a function in the chart that shows you highest bid , lowest ask and so on...most of the times OANDA will take the closest level to stop you out, fill you with the highest (most expensive bid), and not trigger your take profit level, although it was crossed.
Oanda trades on the other side of the client, means you loose/ they win...BUT, they will hardly cheat, they will only use the rules of the game, the way they set them, and you accepted .
The good news is you can still make money, provided you avoid high spread times, specially on news.If you trade daylys with comfortable spreads you should be OK.Oanda is not the ideal broker for 5 min. 1 min. trades, spreads are way too high .Hope that helps.

Indeed it does. Coming from stocks/options/commodities, this is new to me. I'm really glad you helped me BEFORE a live account.

Anyone having bad connection with them lately? I'm experience multi attempt of disconnection, and though the connection is working, the market price moves live, not the chart, it may takes 5 minutes to update a 5 second chart, for desktop softtware.


Also I cannot trade with my account on iPad, whenever I login to an account with trading activities, the app crash, when you switch to an empty account, you're fine, and when there's no trading activities, you're okay.

This is because, despite the regulations that are "protecting" us, the two remaining US brokers both trade against their clients. It's like betting against someone where they control the outcome. But not to worry, the low leverage, no hedging and FIFO are protecting you guys just fine.As for me, I will continue to trade with my high leverage offshore brokers. I know, my funds are not protected, but neither are US regulated brokers.

Well, I can't say that for sure but let me try their web platform before conclude anything, I successfully withdrawn $3k Aussie, $2k profit from them.
Legits for me.

i believe he meant, that
there isnt much difference risking losing your fund overseas vs. risking losing your funds on the sanctified misdeeds of a US broker, ie. spread widening, FIFO, or low leverage.
both may bleed you dry, and if does, there is very little difference from the trader's final look back, really.

what one can always consider, that 50:1 trading vs. 500:1 trading, a trader can deposit just 1/10th the same equity overseas, trade with US like leverage only, but without FIFO, and without excessive widened spread on news, and better spread overall anyway....AND still keep 90% of equity at his real bank account, even earning some interest, while effectively only risking 10% of it overseas, to trade same lot size/profit/loss as at a US broker.
there is always, always another trade!!

If you really coming from stocks options futures, why the hell you need FX? You can have the same with better conditions in regulated markets.

Just to clarify, I was trading stock options, then commodities. Never traded any currencies. In answer to your question, not a clue!

I remember it was a setting to hide the data if there is no price move, instead of displaying long lines. If it's not that then you need to call them.

It has been over 10 minutes, none web trade, desktop trade nor mobile trade are able to load.

Oh now it can load, but what's is the problem? Wait, the price are't moving at all.

And now it can connect with Desktop App, the US account but not the AU account, took 17 minutes.

All of a sudden, the price do not move at all.

Edit: Now I can connect to Desktop but not the webtrade, it literally hangs there.

Nope. I never experience them. You know why? I trade with an "unregulated" offshore broker. Once again, the US regulators are so worried about high leverage, hedging and FIFO (things that help the trader), they must not have time to pay attention to all the scamming and thieving behavior of the brokers. It is actually quite comical when you really sit down and look at what is going on. NOOOOO.trader..you can not use high leverage you must exit in a FIFO order, but broker go ahead and freeze the platform for 15 min. It is not isolated either, I read about it here on an almost daily basis!!!

It's all about the US futures industry maintaining its market through heavy lobbying and political power. Metaquotes might even feed into this by favoring mt5, which is gaining some traction outside of spot.
