This is an appeal to all and anyone holding BTC to run a full node on their spare server or PC, in order to support the network infrastructure. Stats show that the total running nodes have declined by almost 20%(!) over the past two years.

We may think of ways of how to best propagate and be helping this communal blockchain ledger. Well, this is one way of doing it - it doesn't cost anything, it only requires some empty disk space (well, 300GB of storage actually but that's not such a big deal anyways these days!) and, putting a negligible load on ones internet connection, and that's it!

For those people wanting to participate in this, kindly find the Bitcoin Core to download link over here: https://bitcoin.org/en/download

Let the community know if you've participated and supported the network by posting here or by giving this post a thumbs up! Many thanks, and best wishes to all!

I used to run full node 2 - 3 years ago and now I run it only for few weeks in a year,. Only when I need it.

It is really strange that appeal to end users, not to mining pools (who get transactions fees) and cryptocurrency exchanges.
Full node in the cloud or datacenter runs for ~$100/year. For entities like Poollin, Bitmex, Coinbase, etc to run few thousands nodes is nothing especially assuming that their expenses will be tax deductible

Do you guys mine, or just process transactions? What's the profitability? as in... is it profitable? Did you join a pool?

I've always been interested in doing this but was too lazy.

I could agree to some extent in what you're saying, however, in my opinion, let's not oversee these following points:

1) From a security and practical point of view: Bitcoin is all about "cutting out the middleman" and taking control of one's assets. And if you're reading this and have never transacted in Bitcoin before, I'd say, go try and see what it means being able to execute transfers at any given moment on a P2P network, without needing any authorisation of a 3rd party - because only you are fully in charge! And furthermore, why the need to be relying on other peers to confirm mempool transactions while this instead can be done in an instance on your very own network node!

2) From a 'philosophical' point of view if you will: Preliminary we may be wired to look after our own interest first. However, it's all about not only taking, but giving as well - everything in life operates as a two way street. We want Bitcoin to do well (otherwise why bother with this!), and, thus, this could be one's very own, personal and important contribution and to be part of this. If one is holding BTC and has some spare server or PC capacity, I definitely think it's a good - if not even a wise idea to be running a full node!

PS: If this is pure coincidence or what, but have a look at the node status since the launch of this appeal (17th May) - reachable node status is up from the lows! If this is you, well done & thanks!

While I was trying to run the code i was getting this error.
I know this is really late to talk on 10years back post, but if you can then it would be great
