No, it's not a joke. When the pair moves down it's because more people are selling than buying.
One of the problems we humans have is we need explanations for everything. We need them so much that we're willing to believe huge amounts of bullshit simply because a bad reason is better than no reason (religion is my favorite example of this need to know and understand).
In trading, we think every single move can be explained by something other than the simple fact of people buying and selling. We look at all the news and try to interpret it in a satisfactory way. The problem is the reaction to news is not logical nor consistent. Yet, as has been stated before, we see patterns where they don't exist. Interestingly, we don't see the ones that do if they go against our preconceived notions.
So, no, it wasn't a joke. If there was no news and the price made a move, then it was simply because more people were selling than buying. End of story.
