I don't know if it's true, but I've read that although 85% of retail forex traders lose money 75% of institutional traders in the same market are profitable. In fact, they have a name for them. They are known as consistently profitable traders or CPTs.

I'm not a very successful trader, but I assume that the forum can really be useful as an exchange of experience, but at the same time, you need to filter the information.
Many traders here are successful people and they come here to rest to feel their success against the background of others, some want to share trade secrets.

Retail traders account for 5% of the money which changes hands daily in the forex market (250 billion Dollars). Their experience ranges from learner to professional. There is a learning curve in forex trading. The problem is that it is a steep and slippery climb. Persistence and a plan with positive expectancy are what traders must develop before one can join the ranks of consistently profitable traders (CPTs).

these forums can be fun and entertaining at times (I also tried to entertain ppl with crasy posts). but if you're serious better leave and focus on trading. as this forum has nothing to do with trading..

Much more with drugs and gambling addictions

Not sure why you'd want to find a successful trader? To inspire you? To spoon-feed you? There's more than enough info on the internet to get you started. The sooner you start thinking independently the better.

Wrong, the biggest factor determining your future prosperity and path through life involves choosing your parents, very carefully.

Destiny also suggests fatalism, a depressing concept, at odds with the lame positive message you failed to kite fly.

What about those real professional traders who work in trading firms? They don't use Forex Factory at all?

This is an interesting opinion. I'd be interested in knowing what timeframe you think "over the long term" means. (Meaning how long till "the long term" has happened).

Secondly, what are "negatively skewed strategies"?

Yes, there are lots of traders that can find some success for periods of a month or two when the markets cooperate and line up with their trading method perfectly ... only for them to lose everything they gained and then quite a bit more a month or two later when market conditions shift. Most retail traders are in fact losing traders.

However this seems like one of those times where you are creating the ages old "self fulfilling prophesy." You say that it's hard to find someone successful and so for you it has become that way. That said, I've been trading as my fulltime living for the last 6ish years now. Does that mean I'm a successful trader or no? Is trading profitably enough to live on it for 6 years "long term" for you or no?

I'd be interested in hearing your answers.

Yes, recalling my own experience, I haven't met a really successful trader. however, I suppose that those who have at least a little profit from trading in forex have already achieved something in trade, so they're going to succeed.

Best post I've read in a while...How many times have someone started a thread saying they are a professional trader (maybe they are and want to share) and have traded this system for several years? Then 15 losers jump in to tell this person their system don't or can't work. Who needs that they hijack the thread and it goes on for 10 pages. I believe professional traders are not on FF other than to drop in for a laugh....

Spot on, just defer to the experts on the success rate as opposed to those on FF, you know like brokers, technology suppliers and financial authorities, er, basically those who see the opposite side of the bets.

So then, let’s see where these successful traders you refer to are hiding, the rough tale of the tape is;

96% of punters lose,
their average loss is 5k,
they last 3-6 months (depending if they have another go),
when they’re temporarily successful it’s their brilliance, when they fail it’s the broker or the market cheating them,
their account size is circa $1,000,
approx 5% place bets one lot or above,
less than 0.5% derive a 25k+ annual income from trading..

Yes siree, there’s a tale of success and no mistake.

I'm sure there are plenty of successful traders, we just don't hear from many of them on the forums. They're probably too busy making money and, learning how to make even more money. It doesn't take very much to be successful if you have a sufficiently large account. One could be successful even with senseless scalping. But, one thing that is required is a large account and, most retail traders do not have a large account. So with a small account and without a very finely tuned and surgical strategy, there would naturally be a lot of losing retail traders.
