In old days, price help up/held down was used. But for a FL to be a "FL", price must hit an opposite target. Usually if you are referring to FLs to the far left.. Thats ok to refer to FLs like that.

No you are right. We should criticise if something is off from the original teaching. Your first image shows exactly what a FTR is. Red box is the FTR. You see the immediate low above the red box? It didn't retrace back to the red box.

That setup didnt work. But price went up a bit and found a very similar place with a FTR, and my reasoning is, the level we considered is lower scale. The level price actually drawn to is higher scale. because it is visible in m30 also.
