haha! take the loss... some of my worst trades are the ones i post here, so -- maybe best not to post any more trades here!

usdcad — bulls made a valiant effort, but did not break 1.11, and now a decent pin on the 1H (and an engulfing candle on 30M). Rescue time...

I tried to anticipate the move, which was a mistake... watching now for an opportunity to rescue the position, or close it out if the resistance around 1.11 does not hold.

I decided to put on a position, as the 30M has already turned down... I may double up if it turns out good and an opportunity presents itself Short @ 1.0967

loonie — Watching USDCAD with interest.... nice setup in the works

I was out 'marauding' last night (lots of great movement during early London session), and banked another $600.. So this brings the account to around 45% growth this month so far (three days), which is just as well, as I will not be able to trade ...

withdrawals — Cap's post had me thinking... Part of my goal for my trading account is to one day be able to live comfortably off the returns. Many people have similar goals, I think. Also as we grow into higher net-worth individuals, it ...

yay — I took 1/2 profit at 40pips, and will let the rest ride with a SL @ 136.75 and TP @ 136.00 This puts me above my breakeven point for 2009. After losing the majority of my first $1800 deposit making stupid decisions (emotional ...

eurjpy — I am taking this one as a divergence trade. (Price is slightly up, but rsi trigger is significantly lower than previous wave.) Also the resistance area just above 137 proved itself and may hold for now. Price is above the center line, ...

stop — I had moved my stop to just above breakeven, and it got taken out... no worries, that's better than taking a loss, and I'm still up about 10% so far this week. If I would have followed my gut and put on the position before the opening ...

Reasons for entering above trade: Price retraced close to center line during a strong up-trend (also bounced off 136.00 several times); engulfing candle followed by trigger signal. Will be watching closely how price interacts with prior resistance ...

eurjpy — Missed a really nice setup 4H ago on USDCAD, but got into this one long EURJPY @ 136.61 (after about 5 requotes at the opening of the candle). I almost put the order 30 seconds before the close of the previous candle, but decided to ...

visual aid — Ok, since sometimes a picture speaks a thousand words, I plotted some test data in excel to show some of the things I've been talking about. For account balance from $10,000 to $200,000, I have plotted three graphs each for Fixed ...

example — Sure, here are two examples using the "shifted power" formula, with balance growing from $10,000 to $50,000 (notice at $30k equity, the risk is the same in both examples). 1. High risk, low delta Target Balance = $5000 Target ...

I don't mind at all. I am interested in hearing other methods on scaling risk back as equity grows... mikkom suggested one, there must be others...

good point — I try to deal with this by having different trading methods that trade in different market conditions, and/or only during certain times of the day, then size positions based on expectancy of each method. Is there a better way?

not fixed ratio — After testing my spreadsheet to death ( can a spreadsheet die? no it is still alive) I came to realize that my current formula is actually not fixed ratio at all. It is somewhere between fixed ratio and fixed fractional MM. ...

cap — Thanks for the replies capitalist, it gets me thinking. What if you only use a stop loss as an emergency mechanism, and always close out based on PA... what is your risk then? On an individual trade, you will never know. I like to size ...

Hi mikkom - yes that sounds very similar and sticks to the "childhood - adulthood - retirement" idea. The main difference I think is if you plot fixed ratio positions, it is not linear with defined start and end points, but a smooth curve. I think ...

updated spreadsheet — Here I updated the spreadsheet, this should be the last change, unless anyone has ideas for improvement. I changed the formula for both "shifted power" and "base lots" to eliminate errors when you use an offset, and ...
