The move seemed to coincide with this (slightly more hawkish) sentiment regarding the ECB and possible July rate hike: url

Right, I think I was confused because it sounded like you were saying EUR went from 1.37 > 1.15 in March 2014 due to the Crimea situation.

Are you sure about this? Looking at Feb-Mar 2014 (or the whole of that year) it doesn't go anywhere near 1.15?

I can see Lagarde's due to speak at 4:15pm (GMT) but is she scheduled to speak earlier?

Nothing like the threat of imminent war to trigger a Friday afternoon risk-off close. (obviously being satirical/sarcastic, war is and will always be a terrible thing)

Watching to see if this can break below 1.1385. If so, would be reasonable to expect a test of 1.1350. Edit: No firm breach of 1.1385, so now looking for 1.1480. Edit: 1.1480 breached, now looking for 1.1514 where I'd expect a fairly weighty ...

Not that it matters (purely an observation) but it's a bit sad that someone's going out of their way to downvote (almost) every recent comment on this thread. Like come on, is there literally nothing you'd prefer to spend your time doing? Odd ...

Man, I waited all day for this pair to break, gave up in the end taking smallish profit. NOW it makes a run for it! Very frustrating, but tomorrow's another day eh.

I respectfully disagree, I believe fundamentals and geopolitics have a huge impact on all markets. Technicals for me set out targets, fundamentals can dictate direction and timing.

The ever-so-slightly (basically, a smidge less dovish) sentiment came from Lagarde not ruling out 2022 hike and commenting on inflation risks increasing. That's enough to prompt the move. It'd be somewhat coincidental for the move to coincide with ...

Can it break (and hold above) 1.12? I personally hope so.

Anyone know where this current push is coming from? There was no news/announcement (that I could see) nor did that drop correspond with any market opening/regular action. It was an oddly steep drop, has to be a reason. Did any options expire? ...

It's like he started off more hawkish and is now slightly walking some of it back, talking about hiking rate ceilings, supply chain issues etc. I personally think (apologies to the "I wanna see charts" guy) that this will hit around 1.1234 (maybe ...

Powell sounding pretty hawkish here.
- MrGuy replied Jan 26, 2022
Agree, even the subtlest alteration in tone or inclusion/exclusion of certain words by J Powell can send the market spinning. The press conference usually dictates the move far more than the statement which often offers little to no surprise.

On what timescale are you expecting it to reach sub 0.86?
- MrGuy replied Jan 21, 2022
Small short here from 1.1359, looking to TP around 1.1328.
- MrGuy replied Jan 20, 2022
Small buy here at 1.1304. Expecting a smallish retracement to at least 1.1320 short-term before it decides what it wants to do.

Who says new members are being brainwashed into thinking this is a get rich quick scheme? People figure things out at their own pace, you did it, we did it, so on and so forth.
