US isn't sovereign either, by the definition of legitimate elections. Aside from the electoral college undermining citizen's choices, the only choice offered by the two party system is which set of oligarchs get to exploit the country the most for the next few years.

The 99% are no better off either way. Which is why this site is chock full of desperate gamblers.

The problem with democracy is people are easily bought vis a vis ;

A narrative which resonates with them

Monetary promises for fiscal assistance

Political bias from generational partisanship

I adhere to no political affiliation and take each political promise with a huge pinch of salt

Call it experience from watching the baying crowds and the orators who aspire to gain their votes

Yep. The US founders had the basic idea right, but were still fundamentally elitist so it never crossed their minds to engineer institutions of statecraft to train every citizen in matters of governance.

Their experiment might not have devolved as it has, if they had been truly capable of imagining a society where citizens are in charge.

Current conditions aside, I'm optimistic. We have the means now to assemble true direct democracy and debug it to the point of actually working. I think we're going to get there.

I'm counting on radical longevity innovations to let me see it.
