Fake Crypto Influencer Gets 15 Months for $1.4 Million Staking Fraud
A New York man who impersonated crypto influencers on Telegram and used false promises of staking rewards to collect more than $1.4 million from victims has been sentenced to 15 months in prison. U.S. District Judge Deborah K. Chasanow sentenced Noman Saleem, 39, on Tuesday to 15 months behind bars and three years of supervised release. Prosecutors said Saleem targeted investors, including at least one victim in Maryland, by claiming he could generate returns through cryptocurrency staking.
