Wouldn't it be hilarious if we found out Musk and Co. were pumping hundreds of billions into the markets on these selloffs to pump it again in the hopes that the IPO goes off big on Friday? There's so much $$ at risk. If it flops (like that's possible), tech is going to be for a rough ride. If it flourishes, the billions each member tossed into bolstering the markets would net hundreds of billions in SpaceX valuation (not to mention the peripheral boost to tech).

....They wouldn't even have to address large markets (like /nq). They could just go sell 40k /cl contracts in rapid order. That would remove all market fear as oil would fall a few bucks almost instantly. At ~$24k per /CL contract, that would only take $1B. Seems plausible to me.

I doubt ANY institution wants this IPO to fail. There is just too much money (market cap) on the line. Not only for this, but for the next 2 AI companies watching closely to see if they, too, wish to go public at ridiculous valuations.

This Kabuki "war" could drag on for months/years. When it first started, I figured this was Trump's plan: to enter the USA into a permanent state of war so that he could declare various "national emergencies" and cancel elections. It's easy to see that what Trump fears most is losing an election.

If the SoH shutdown continues, inflation & high gas prices are guaranteed, and that is poison for the GOP. They own this war and its effects. So, when Trump says, "I don't care about the mid-terms" - what do you think he really means? So what if gas goes to $7/gallon? Trump and all the other corporate oligarchs who run the country do not drive, do not pump gas, do not buy "groceries." The nuisance of democracy can just be done away with and then they won't have to listen to the little people whine about "affordability."

As to the latter query, I'd venture: nearly no impact at all (based on recent movement). Iran isn't going to attack US assets aggressively and risk restarting anything. The US doesn't want that either. A few telegraphed missiles being sent to US bases in the area that can be knocked down or mysteriously fall into the sea. That'll be the extent. Of course, it will be spun in Iran as "Aggressively attacking major US installations and assets in the region thoroughly damaging their ability to make war."

Though, now that I think of it, I thought Trump said that the Iranian air defense system was destroyed already? How is he finding targets? Were they rebuilt during the ceasefire? Seems the US would have take out the air defense and surveillance sites in the first 50 waves of bombing. Were they just leaving assets in place for events like this?

Sigh.....the bull$hit is thick from all parties during this war. This war that was "won" 2 days after it started (right Mr. Trump?). Uhg. Can't trust anything

I kind of answered my own question about this above, BUT, market volatility is oblivious to these actions. Oil isn't jumping. /vx isn't moving. Equities aren't really even jiggling at the announcements.

I guess you could say that equities v-bottomed after the announcement was made today (11:39 AM CST) that the US was going to retaliate for the helicopter, is THAT the type of reaction we expect from an Iran attack? A 2% up move in /ES after trump said we were going to address the helicopter incident....didn't see that coming.

Personally, I think that had more to do with the fact that the /ES had fallen to almost EXACTLY 5% off highs and nearly touched the 50day MA.....but the timing certainly was spot on for the Trump tweet.

There's a chance a blow-out CPI can give us another leg down. Although that action played heavily last Friday. With inflation going up and the economy running hot, there's no chance for Fed rate cuts. But, many of the tech names are immune to that.

For sure no cut (regardless of CPI data). You don't even need to look to the FED fund futures percentages to know that.....you can just notice a complete lack of Truth Social posts about how rates are still too high. When even Trump has stopped clamoring for cuts, you know there are none coming.

Remember recently Trump said, and I am paraphrasing here, "Warsh will look at the rates in the October meeting". Since it will likely be a hike before a cut, the tone has changed.

APPARENTLY, when you effectively cancel `5-20% of the world's energy production + auxiliaries (fertilizer components, plastics, etc) for 3 months, inflation expectations grow. Who knew????

The much more important item this week is SpaceX. If that flops, it is a gaping hole in the AI armor. It will spook everyone into thinking there's an issue with the idea that "AI growth is unstoppable". It's hard to know what qualifies as a "flop" though. Only doubling day 1? I think if it closes at or around the open price, tech is screwed. Anything but a 2-3x open > high for the day would be seen as failure, regardless of the float.

lots of rumors @ the big down moves in the last few days have been rotational, aka people bailing out of big profit positions in other tech names so they can load up at the SPCX ipo.

I offered $150 for a few shares.

Rumors can be rumors, but at an $80M float, that's like what...0.05% of the /es? So, even if you assume it comes off at 4x the initial, we're still talking about a 0.2% down move in the /es to see free cash? I didn't actually do the math, but freeing up $300B from tech (/nq, for example) with a market cap of $40T is peanuts when compared to 1600+ pt day ranges.

This Trump is such a goat head president, he has made America look worse than it was. He is such a greedy stock trader whose interest is the money he will make from the market. He started a war without plan and now he is ridiculing America because he is frustrated and want a deal out of the war Iran is already feeling like the winner. I don’t really know how he will get the deal. I am really ashamed that this is happening to the mighty USA, I can’t believe this.

Im live in Iran. All the official news agencies were announcing the end of this tension. Trump said yesterday that an agreement will be reached in the next two or three days, and I think it has been done, and all that remains is the official announcement.
