    Federal Reserve officials showed growing support at their April meeting for taking the first step toward a possible interest-rate hike, according to minutes of the meeting released Wednesday. Policymakers said that high energy prices and tariffs were continuing to put upward pressure on overall inflation. "The vast majority of participants noted the increased risk that inflation would take longer to return to the Fed's 2% objective than they had previously expected," the minutes read. In April, the Fed left rates unchanged, in a range of 3.5% to 3.75%, for the third straight meeting. There were three dissents ... (full story)

Why market?, the manipulators will be the one to take the other direction

Market is neutral, it is like a field where football is played, does not favour any team, unless your team get to know the bumps, holes etc in the field due to practice on the said field

This is true about the apparent home ground advantage. However, the market could be a basketball court which are flat surfaces.

But then, some are measured in feet, which would advantage players in the USA. Others are measured in metres, which would benefit the other 200 countries in the world.


Not fair. Some players will always have an advantage depending on the definition of a market. Is that racist?

How high must Fed interest rates increase to stop business folk passing on the cost of tariffs to the end product?

Will higher Fed interest rates stop producers (be it shipping, airlines or fertilisers) passing on the costs of higher energy prices?

Maybe it would be more prudent for the Fed to consider the quite predictable recession in the foreseeable future before putting the brakes on (knowing that any change in monetary policy takes 12 to 18 months to have traction).
