In the event the aggression against Iran is repeated, “the regional war that was promised will this time be extended beyond the region, and our crushing blows will bring you to ruin in places you cannot imagine,” Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said, according to a statement reported by the country’s semi-official Mehr news agency. So you are not aware of what happened the last time Iran was a progressive democracy? Those crazy people had the gall to think they should control their own oil and profits from it.

The UK and US disagreed, so the CIA brought down the democratic government in Iran and installed a dictatorship that allowed the West to continue exploiting Iranian oil.

Nobody in the West has the right to talk about 'freeing the people of Iran' when we're the ones who destroyed the freedom they already had.

Furthermore, even the most tyrannical regimes in Iran have NEVER, EVER made any kind of move to control the fucking world. Zero evidence of this ridiculous idea. Stop swallowing (and spreading) propaganda and observe what's actually happening.

Iran is under attack from Israel, funded and assisted by the US, because Iran is the only country in the world that has fought back against the butchering of Palestinians. That's the whole damn story here, and any other take is a lie. It doesn't make Iran the good guys. Theocracy is bad. Like the one in Israel, and the one taking over in the US.

Saying Iran was a progressive democracy is an exaggeration. Iran under Mossadegh had democratic elements, but it was politically unstable and the system was far from being a full democracy. The coup was wrong regardless, but acknowledging western wrongdoing does not erase the Iranian regime’s own actions over the last 45 years. The Islamic Republic has brutally repressed its own population, executed dissidents, crushed protests, backed militant groups across the region, and helped sustain Assad during the Syrian civil war, where over 200,000 civilians died. Stop infantilizing an entire regime. Trying to justify their acts as just them fighting back is like trying to justify Bush’s Iraq invasion as fighting back against things like 9/11.

Iran was almost certainly more of an actual progressive democracy that the US and certainly more than many European countries these days. A country run by the jewish Epstein pedophile group doesn't get to claim moral high ground in any situation.

Iran has unelected religious oversight bodies, placed limits on opposition candidates, restricted speech and protest, and has documented crackdowns on dissidents and women’s rights activists. Saying it is “more of an actual progressive democracy than the US and certainly more than many European countries” is so far from the truth that it is actually jarring to read. Why not go flourish in their progressive democracy rather than pay taxes to and spend money in the economy built by the jewish Epstein pedophile group? Surely it’d be an easy decision to make.

Brutal regime, agreed. Nothing infantile about them, nor did I imply that there is. The point, which you apparently missed, is that the current conflict has nothing to do with helping Iranians. And the brutal oppression they have had for decades is our fault.

I agree that it was no more than a budding democracy at the time of the coup. Isn't that enough? They were moving in the right direction when western powers undermined them.

All rhetoric about saving Iran from their regime is just that. Where was the CIA-backed coup they really needed in the last 45 years? Is bombing their resources and infrastructure a logical path to democracy? Obviously not. In fact, there were plans to install Ahmedinijad at the head of a new regime. Another hardliner theocractic lunatic who would provide endless excuses to keep bombing them. That's what Netanyahu wants.

We aren't saving Iranians from tyranny. That narrative is a lie.

Yeah I agree that the idea Trump started this was to help the Iranians is certainly not true. I just don’t get behind trying to soften the actions of the Iranian government because western politicians who are long gone by now decided to start a secret coup. That's a false choice argument. In other words, it's illogical bullshit.

1. isn't an option, because a free Iran isn't the goal of the current conflict. Ahmedinijad is, or was, a candidate for leading the new regime, if you think that frees Iran you are clueless.

2. Isn't a choice at all. It's a situation. The west *could* talk about freeing Iran and mean it. But they waited through 73 years of tyranny, and now suddenly it's important to free them?

Believe it if you want. But most people aren't that gullible.

2. the past is a sunk cost and therefore irrelevant to any decision about the future. What can be done to release all manner of goodness, rather than slide around in circles in shit and stink and vomit and resentment.

The question is: who rules Iran and who will respect that authority decisions? If there is a centralized system - then OK. If not (dispersed decisions, anarchy) - everything can happen. If we don't know the answer - no sense to read all that bs.

There have been reports outlining Iran's decentralised systems. I believe it was designed this way so that 'taking out the leader' doesn't cause the system to break. I've seen it described as a 'mosaic' structure when talking about the military, with local commanders given a lot of autonomy.
