It seems to be a bit of a nail-biter.

They do have a point. Starting a blockade during a ceasefire is a pretty big violation.

I honestly dont see how these two sides are supposed to come together. Iran would have to be stupid to give up the Straits while it would be idiotic for the US to allow Iran to remain in control of them.

Time is very much on Iran's side.

It seems that the threat of blocking the Straits is much less powerful than what they are currently trying to do: set up a toll booth with the ability to exclude any nation in a targeted fashion. The first is a deterrent. The second will make them into the dominant regional power.
