U.S. derivatives regulators are examining a handful of unusual oil futures trades that took place minutes before a surprise announcement by President Donald Trump signaling a pause in attacks on Iran, according to Bloomberg News. The investigation is being spearheaded by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, which is scrutinizing activity on trading venues run by CME Group and Intercontinental Exchange, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter. So the CFTC, which is run by Trump yes-men, is going to investigate suspicious trades, and if they find the culprit -- almost certainly a buddy of Trump's -- they will refer the case to the Department of Justice (which is run by Trump's personal lawyer) for prosecution. Yeah, that will work.

The buyer was extremely astute given the large volume placed at quiet market hours in both CL & ES… but as you say, as markets can only go up or down, there’s no need for even a cursory investigation…
