Doesn't seem credible. I'll believe it when the Iranians announce it. An anonymous "source" who is "close to Tehran" saying Iran "could consider" something that removes a major source of their leverage? Okay...sure.

I dont think it will be escalation... reports coming out that Lebanon ceasefire will be announced either tonight or tomorrow early, due to pressure from Tehran... Its reported Tehran closing the strait is the pressure strategy used.

We will see.

About 15 - 20 ships per day. Prior to the conflict, the strait was allowing closer to 120 ships per day. Big difference is that Iran and Oman are making about 2 million USD per ship. That's 30-40 million USD per day. This is a plus for Iran and Oman who weren't seeing this much profit prior to the conflict. This blockade is hurting everyone but the Middle East. Currencies being exchanged are BTC and Yuan. This is only allowing Iran to gear up for battle. As the West, I feel like diplomacy is out the window and an invasion with boots on the ground is inevitable. China swears they aren't helping Iran but China is deflated with US and our impact on global economy. No one cares at this point and that's where things get dangerous imo. Rates will go up at next revision, and Trump and Xi won't meet in May.

My understanding is that the Strait, at its narrowest, is 20 mi wide, so that does not allow for normal 12mi territorial water width there at the narrowest point. And so they have had an ingress and an egress lane in this narrow part, which is also shallow. Ingress on the Iranian side and egress on the Omani side. So, there may not be room for in and out solely on one side. It's nothing new to say ships will sail out thru the Omani side, because that has always been the setup for egress, anyway. If the idea is to have separate ingress/egress lanes on both sides of the narrowest strait, I'm not sure that's workable, but it might be, with much reduced volume.

Control of the SoH has been Iran's "ace in the hole" - not likely they will give that up without major compensation. I have heard they have asked for $270bio in reparations. Not a problem, really - we can dust off the spare printers & have that knocked out in a long weekend. Maybe they will work out a JV with Trump, to charge duties on all passages thru the SoH. Maybe there is some waterfront realestate in Iran Trump has his eye on, who knows?

The 270 billions is only war damages, there is also moral damages, 2-3 thousands killed + Iran have 60-100 billions locked abroad.

High end estimates based on 2mil per passage will yield around 70-100 billions per year in income
Low end estimates based on Suez canal fees will yield around 20 billions per year in income

gulf monarchies run deficit budgets year after year, they impose no to low taxes and bribe their citizens to stay docile and compliant - murika will NEVER pay Iran anything - leaving the only solution towards charging fees at the strait to recover.

I mention the gulf monarchies because Iran is charging them for allowing their territory to be used to attack it, requiring compensation from them too.

Honestly, the set up at 6600 was screaming rebound. Wall St just doesn't pass up on opportunity. A double bottom at 6300 and "positive talks" was the perfect cocktail. Currently, market ceiling at 7363. Most likely this move stalls at 7153. At 7153 we'll see more positive sentiment but make no mistake, the music is beginning to slow down. Silver will get tired at 105, Gold @ 5240 and we will see West Texas Intermediate above 200 USD p/b.
