    The Trump administration’s Department of Justice is nearing its first big legal deadline in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that President Donald Trump’s tariffs issued under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act are illegal. The DOJ needs to weigh in by Friday on one of the first legal fights over refunds in which plaintiffs are asking for expedited payment of tariff refunds through the Court of International Trade (CIT), which has typically handled tariff cases. Even more hilarious is that the companies in the US paid no tariffs (sure some may have taken a hit and not pass it to consumers partially, but i bet that's a very small minority, and not for the total amount of the tariffs), the consumers did, and the companies will get a refund now.

But to be fair they voted stupid they deserve stupid.

Great for the lawyers: >2,000 companies sued the govt b4 the SCOTUS ruling; 100's more have piled on since then. Widely reported that 90% of tariffs have been born by US consumers. Including me. So where is my refund check?

In economics a consideration is the cost of collecting a tax when designing tax policy. This is not insubstantial.

In this situation there is also the cost of refunding. This would be substantial on many levels. Ouch.

The consumer paid for the tariff, not the U.S. importer or the foreign exporter, because all prices were marked up to absorb the tariff. Eventually, the consumer ended up paying a higher price. They claimed a refund, since importers had already paid the U.S. government when the goods were unloaded at the port warehouse but had not yet been distributed to the market.
