On January 30, President Trump – on his Truth Social – nominated Kevin Warsh for Fed Chair. There was market speculation toward the end of January that Rick Rieder could win the nomination. However, after it became clear that Kevin Hassett was going to stay at the helm of the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA), and Christopher Waller made a last-minute attempt to get President Trump’s attention by dissenting from the January 28 decision of the FOMC to keep rates on hold, in the end it was Warsh who prevailed.
