Who pays the tariffs? If there is a 15% tariff on all goods imported from the EU, and the value of the USD falls by 15% (against the euro) in a year, how much will you have to pay for good French brie?

If your (dollar denominated) stock portfolio makes 15% in a year, but the USD falls 15% against all other currencies, on average, in the same time period, will you make any money?

Shhh....don't quote facts on here ;-)

Then again, the vast majority of people in this country have zero clue what the value of the dollar is vs other currencies. Another sizable portion (of the population, not of the wealth) isn't invested at all.

Voters hear "we're taxing other countries and making billions/trillions from them!" and say "good, FINALLY someone stands up to the rest of the world!". Sigh.
