European Union Mandates Absolute Tax Transparency for Crypto Exchanges in 2026
The European Union has finalized its transition toward an era of total financial oversight for the digital asset sector with the full implementation of the DAC8 directive and the Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation. Beginning January 1, 2026, all crypto-asset service providers operating within the EU—or serving EU-resident customers—will be legally required to report detailed transaction data and user balances to national tax authorities.
