Coinbase users lose $16 million in crypto scam
A shocking incident recently shook the crypto industry when Brooklyn authorities charged a man for allegedly stealing $16 million from users of Coinbase (Nasdaq: COIN), the largest crypto trading exchange in the U.S. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced on Dec. 19 that his Virtual Currency Unit indicted a local 23-year-old man for allegedly posing as the exchange's representative, making about 100 Coinbase users believe that their digital assets are at the risk of getting hacked, and tricking them into transferring their assets to a new wallet that he controlled.
