    The Consumer Sentiment Index in the United States declined 4.9% in November compared to the previous month, to stand at 51, according to the final monthly report released by the University of Michigan on Friday. The figure was down by 29% annually. The Current Economic Conditions Index decreased by 12.8% in the reported period compared to October and by 20% annually, standing at 51.1 points. Well, if this is at all surprising (if the revised data came at the end of the government shutdown, but with everything still closed), that is not at all surprising.

What WILL be the case (if the markets can turn around before then) will be the next number jumping to 55 and a headline of "consumer confidence climbs to xxx highs.

Either way, the markets don't like the number...either out of apathy or reality, the reason is irrelevant. Volatility is climbing and the /nq is falling. Volumes aren't that high, so a capitulation day this is not (at least not yet....and I fear how that would look if it were to happen, with no big news left on the day).

US BLS : CONSUMER PRICE INDEX FOR NOVEMBER TO BE RELEASED ON DEC. 18-STATEMENT Revised news release dates following the 2025 lapse in appropriations BLS will announce revised news release dates on this page as they become available. We appreciate your patience while we work to get this information out as soon as possible, as it may take time to fully assess the situation and finalize revised release dates. table Consumer Price Index (CPI): BLS could not collect October 2025 reference period survey data due to a lapse in appropriations. BLS is unable to retroactively collect these data. For a few indexes, BLS uses nonsurvey data sources instead of survey data to make the index calculations. BLS is able to retroactively acquire most of the nonsurvey data for October. Where possible, BLS will publish October 2025 values for these series with the release of November 2025 data. BLS will publish the November 2025 CPI news release on December 18, 2025. This news release and database update will not include 1-month percent changes for November 2025 where the October 2025 data are missing. With the November release, BLS will also finalize fourth quarter 2024 Chained CPI-U data series values and update 2025 first quarter through third quarter values. BLS has not yet determined a publication date for special research series, such as the CPI for new tenant rent and CPI for all tenant regressed rent.
