ECB monetary policy decisions
The Governing Council today decided to keep the three key ECB interest rates unchanged. Inflation remains close to the 2% medium-term target and the Governing Council’s assessment of the inflation outlook is broadly unchanged. The economy has continued to grow despite the challenging global environment. The robust labour market, solid private sector balance sheets and the Governing Council’s past interest rate cuts remain important sources of resilience. ECB President Christine Lagarde explains the Governing Council's monetary policy decisions and will answer questions from journalists at the Governing Council press conference to be held on Thursday, 30 October 2025 at 14:45 CET in Florence, Italy.
At the Monetary Policy Meeting held today, the Policy Board of the Bank ofJapan decided, by a 7-2 majority vote, to set the following guideline for money market operations for the intermeeting period: The Bank will encourage the uncollateralized overnight call rate to remain at around 0.5 percent. Voting for the action: UEDA Kazuo, HIMINO Ryozo, UCHIDA Shinichi, NOGUCHI Asahi, NAKAGAWA Junko, KOEDA Junko, and MASU Kazuyuki. Voting against the action: TAКАТА Hajime and TAMURA Naoki. Takata Hajime considered that there had been a shift away from the deflationary norm and the price stability target had been more or less achieved. Tamura Naoki considered that, with risks to prices becoming more skewed to the upside, the Bank should set the policy interest rate a little closer to the neutral rate. They proposed that the Bank set the guideline for money market operations as follows: the Bank would encourage the uncollateralized overnight call rate to remain at around 0.75 percent. The proposals were defeated by majority votes.
