u are really clueless - do some more research. i never said 30 year did not trade - i said 10 year bonds have the most volume and used as a benchmark

The 10-year Treasury yield serves as a benchmark for a wide range of interest rates, including those for mortgages, corporate bonds, and other loans

If Stephen Miran had his way a whole bunch of bonds (of short maturities) would be converted by decree to 100 year maturities. (Amongst other some other pretty interesting stuff, like selling all the federal gold reserves, shh).

It's a 42 page pdf. Not bedtime reading.

Anyway, you'll find that what is nominally known as 30 year bond futures are still actively traded on the CME. Somewhere between 1.5 and 2 million contracts open interest. Not the benchmark anymore by any means. It used to be.

Irony of Forex, result and interpretations

Yesterday, UK 30yr yield jumped just few basis points to 5.68 and £ lost over 200 pips against the dollar effectively seen as £ negative

Today same 30yr yield has crossed the 5% mark and it is interpreted as $ positive.

Interpretation and market forces are never predictable

Which ever way you look at it, Short or Long Bond. For the UK mostly likely outcome is a crisis before the Autumn Budget. For the US, when 30Y yields breach 5% watch how it shoots up!

US 30 years above 5% and Japan 30 years above 3.2% is a sign that we are coming to an end.

could this sustain yen weakness as japan is large US bond buyer and will cause more yen being converted to USD to buy high yield bonds or will it cause investors to pull out of USD as a risk off approach causing yen bullishness. interested in your thoughts i think USD being global reserve currency wont cause investors to be worried about USD paying their interest back as they can always print more.

5% on a 30 year US bond is still a very low level. In a historical range of 2% - 15%. So there is more upside than downside to it.
