Japan is not paying tariffs. It is the American importers and eventually consumers that pay tariffs. Such misleading headlines.

That's amazing if true, that Japan is prepared to pay all those tariffs on behalf of US importers, Japan is so generous. US consumers/importers should be very grateful that they don't have to pay tariffs like they usually would!

This is similar to when billionaires from the Middle East goes to the US and announces big investments, but they end up investing not even 5% of the original amount, if anything at all. It's all media hype, political nonsense, and just a way for Trump to keep feeding his supporters bullshit. Japan is not investing $500bi to lose 90% in the process while it has a trade surplus with US of only $68bi. It's a win for Japan, not US, as Trump reduced their tarrifs from 25 to 15%. lol

Rice imports should take some pressure off Ueda though, big component of the headline inflation figures.
